second chance at missed lockpick attempts?
do you get one or do you need to make a new character?

You get another shot when the character levels up, which is really dumb imo considering the tabletop rules let you retry and take 20 on such checks.

You get a new chance when you increase your Trickery skill, so I guess that would limit it till only when you gain a new level.

One attempt per character, until they either level up, or gain more Trickery points.

would equiping and unequipping equipment that enhances trickery give you another chance?

edit: just tried, didn't work.

save before doing any lock pick then just load and repeat

It's the problem with not having thieves tools, and it's a optional rule that DM's can use when it comes to failed lockpickings... which sucks... but whatever.
