According to the rules, her starting age has to be between 23 and 38 years old because she's a halfling, for whom adulthood is 20 years of age, and she's a bard, which qualifies as a self-taught class, which requires an additional +3d6 years.

Not sure why you ask, but... she's been to the academy, which implies well into adulthood at least.
yea if you listen to her backstory she's been to the bardic academy for what seemed like a good long time i do believe she got kicked out if i recall properly, but she sounded as if she was there quite awhile before that. She was not exactly a kid when she started so i figure she's probably close to her 30's if not like 35 at a guess.

He asks because the voice roleplay a kiddish voice, and the writing someone a bit naively optimistic and very enthusiast.

But yeah facts are here, and somehow her past make doubtful the personality. But if you try dig it to justify it, she jumped from family with mentor, to school, to books and a second mentor protection. And then directly jumped into adventures only at beginning of the game. So with some effort to justify it, the writing and her personality is enough coherent. From far my fav companion for now, but I wonder how the game can manage if you don't pick her.

EDIT: And she seems be like an echo of Imoen in Baldur's Gate 1 (not at all the Imoen of BG2), but with much more writing to sustain the character.

I’m sure gifted stufents"prob start out in the academy at much your ages. As for how she sounds and acts I mean she’s a little joyful halfling.

Your ages? 60 seems a bit late to start at academy even for a hafling. :-)

I had the exact same thought than OP, but what age she has, yes a little little joyful halfling that never left halflingburg county, but it's not right like that, but somehow if you consider academy and travel world to sell books is like living in halflingburg.

If there's an incoherency it's someone who read a lot just can't keep behave like that. :-) But it's refreshing, I enjoy. :-)

Its okay. She's old enough that you can't get arrested for your awkward thoughts.

Lol for sure it makes wonder, what's wrong with me... :-) But romance Imoen or Linzi looks a bit disgusting. For Imeon it's eventually a bit more clear, she is like your sister. Both evokes the lost childhood, not some perverted mind. :-)

But that's why it's so hard to write such (not much realistic) character, and why Imoen BG2 is a writing disaster.

Her personality is pretty much stereotypical halfling personality, they tend to be happy go lucky when they aren't being enslaved by devil worshippers

and i thought that octavia is inspired by imoen

I agree on that, but for hafling that didn't left their county. And it's less D&D lore than LotR Hobbit lore.

In D&D I don't think it's classic Halfing lore from the few I know. Even less for an Halfing who traveled the world.

But I don't question the Linzi writing, I enjoy. Too conventional characters become quickly a boredom, and if this is a cliché overall, it is a lot too rare in RPG that aren't JRPG. Evoke childhood is a strong adult topic but quite difficult to cover well, RPG is a quite good context for that.

Could change my opinion when I met her. :-) I hope you don't mean Imoen BG2, my nerves won't bear it, ha ha.
