Why was the charm person spell removed?
Title. Enchanting uses it as a core spell yet it's gone. The Charm Domain has it replaced with Hold Person, which is functionally very different.

My guess is there isn't any use for the spell in the game. Using it outside of combat won't result in different options of dialog for NPCs, and the spell will instantly break in combat when any aggression is made against the charmed person or it's allies.

It still exists in the Charm domain as a level 8 feature.
It could have been used in various different ways in and out of combat...

1: Use charm person, on a non' combat target you intend to talk with, gain a persuasion bonus when interacting with that target. If the target makes it's will save you instead get a penalty to checks!

2: in combat, using charm person is difficult the target gets a +5 to overcome charm, if successful the target stops attacking the play, but won't attack it's former allies. If you attack or damage the target, it breaks the charm.

Not really hard to come up with ways to use it... it's very strange that it was removed.

Okay, so even though it's the level 8 ability it doesn't exist as a castable spell. Just used a trainer to increase my exp so I could instantly level to 8. It's in the spell book with description errors and not available on skill bars.

edit:

correction, it's added after resting. new icon.

edit 2:

and it has zero casts per day haha...

I'd love for a dev to explain why they omitted it even if it's just a " an over sight " or " time constraints " or " we weren't sure how to implement it effectively in the context of the game " i'd be ok with that, just feels like an odd omition. Even NWN 1 and 2 had charm person... all be it were more like dominate spells but it's a really odd decision... i was gonna play a fey bloodline sorcer enchanter but lack of some spells really hurts it, and no coup de grace...so sleep isn't nearly as useful--- it's a little disapponting...

DDO even had charm person.

When I first loaded up the game I was clawing to make my old enchanter. No such luck. Enchanters without Charm Person loses it's appeal.

Enchanting people.

Something you do non of now.

Alot of D&D things werent added...I could mention soo many things....stuff like Where are all the Robes <lvl8? Where are all the Darts/slings? You had access to those in BG at level 1.

I know theire working on a tight budget but still :/

I get that things get cut, but enchanter is useless on low levels because of this. Even more so if you pick the specialist subclasses that lock out other schools.
