tactics that work for me: pre-buff the hell out of ur party with resist energy-fire and protection from energy-fire...pro evil communal...enlarge on amiri using her bastard sword (or valarie if no amiri)...as many buff pots as u have use them...once inside mob the north were rat while leaving valaire to tank the south one...keep linzi on heal duty with bardic music up...send ur pet or another party member with good reflex save after alchemist (use glitterdust if u have it) that person must have resist-fire at a minimum...after north rat goes down mob south rat...keep linzy healing if she runs out replace with another healer...then finally mob alchemist (displacement should have worn off by now)

good luck

Return to it when you're higher leveled and better equipped. A quick look at their AC is enough to tell this is a higher leveled encounter. (well if being shredded by them is not obvious enough an answer XD)

Except when you look at the exp and loot they give, it's clearly supposed to be a lower level encounter.

You should wait till you are level 5. Resist energy fire, focus one wererat sneak attacker down (so they cannot flank), kill alchemist, kill 2nd Rogue. The loot is still good at that level imo. Remember to cast hideous laughter on the rogues (bad will save)

I beat them before fighting the stag lord by using hold person and hideous laughter. Their ac and to hit bonuses are high but their saves suck. Didnt resist once.

Those were rats have +1 keen weapons +2 armor and chest with looooooots of money items <_<

I can say that you need to be level 5 minimum to have decent chance of beating them if you ask me

You do not have to kill everything when you find it. Wererats are tough especially in numbers. Its an Act 2 thing imo.

Beat at level 4. Its possible. You just cant charge in expecting to match your attack bonus and AC to theirs.

Exactly. While probably not very intuitive (because you can go there during the first chapter), you don't need to be able to kill everything at the first possible occasion.

Just like BG1... where you could go towards Baldurs Gate right from the start, and get killed by some Ankhegs. Being able to go somewhere doesn't mean you should go there.

went back for them at level 7 and it was ez

There are no silver weapons that i have seen - but my main is a monk and her hands count as silver cold steel at level 6ish. So i had no problem with the wererats after that. It would be nice to see a few silver arrows or something - just so you get the hint.

They all can throw bombs, seems like the one in the back likes to throw them the most frequently. The way I dealt with them is to engage the far one with one of my tanks and while the other 2 are engaged in combat focus one then the other then deal with the bomb guy. (he usually still bombs the tank he is fighting but at least its not spalshing your whole team) (much love for bombs btw they rock!!!)

You can do this at level 3. You will likely not be able to steam roll this fight at level 3 like much of the rest of the prolog (I wasn’t able to in any case). But with scrolls of fire resistance and a few other party buffs / gear you can make mincemeat of the rats easy enough. This is one of them fights at the early levels that depends on how you approach it tactically as opposed to brute force. (Unless your level 5 then feel free to steam roll it)

Thank you guys, I have kill them rats at level 4 by using hideous laughter and pouring acid and buring fire on them, starting with the bomber wererat:steamhappy:

I'm really glad this encounter exists and is available early in the game. I really enjoyed puzzling out how to beat them with Valerie, Amari, Jaethal, Linzi and Tristan at level 3. Tristan was key (resist energy and faerie fire). I sacrificed the chance to complete the Stag Lord within 30 days to change spell selection outside the cave.
