Any tips for the Stag Lord battle at level 4 on Challenging?
First of all, this is not a 'this game is too hard' post. I love it being challenging.

What this post is;
I'm level 4 and trying the Stag Lord battle. I have Valerie, Amiri, Harrim, a custom Druid, Octavia and my 'main' character, an Evocation Wizard.
I've buffed anyone up as much as I can find (even various scrolls and pots).

But I'm having trouble with the fight (which is great!)

1. I've tried focussing on the Stag Lord with range (maybe there's a way up to him, haven't tried that door yet).
2. Also tried taking out the named melee guys first

I also get there, most of their group is dead but they have enough to finish my remaining group.

One thing I haven't tried is focussing on that named rogue. Maybe I need to get a See Invisible spell/scroll and try that?
Any tips?

EDIT: Or do most people try this battle once you're level 5?

What platform? I quoted only the one where is the boss.

Where events proc? What? I didn't quote any place nor even events during the combat.

Zombies? Had to kill them all to sneak into the fort. Moreover they are far outside, how the hell you can lure enemies to them?

The platform where the staglord is, the event procs where the stag lord appears just a bit after the stairs to get to it, put everyone there.

You can move in battle, also if you killed the zombies onus is on you m8.

I never even thought about dragging zombies into them, I'll have to try that next time. So far I've just been clearing the camp, then assassinating the stag lord on his little porch while the NPCs I turned keep his minions busy.

One thing that I am now curious about. Is it actually possible to if not kill at least severely weaken the camp and the Stag Lord by simply aggroing every single zombie and running a train into that camp. Without actually dirtying my own hands.

Ok so you really mean the zombies outside the fort, but how you enter the fort? Main entrance? I don't see how even a fast pet could drag the whole fort or even half of it from entrance.

It's like you start combat close to the boss, but how you reach this position, main entrance, alarms ring but gradually kill groups of bandits? And then what you listed?

Interesting you ask, just finished it on Hard with my Scroll Savant Evoker. If you turn XP share off, you can indeed reach level 5 in a 6 people party, I did it after I killed wererats. It was pretty straightforward - I run Evoker with spell focus x2 and fire focus x2, positioned everyone on a ramp, blasted Stag Lord with magic missiles from me and Octavia. I had Mirror Image on myself and her and Protection from Arrows Communal. Then it was Webs + 3 DC23 Fireballs for rest of the bandits.

I beat him on 5. It was NOT easy. I think Owl Bear can be bugged, because I passed the test and calmed him and it told me to step away from the cage and he would help me battle Stag Lord. But he would not come out of the cage and I could not open it. So much for that.

I finally won that battle by luring away most of the bandits and killed them, then I went and got the bandits outside. Stag Lord himself is not that tough, you can get him easily with ranged and spells after everyone else is dead. The tough one is the dude with the big sword, he killed everyone in my party by himself except me and Octavia and we finished off Stag Lord with spells and ranged.

As you kill each goon, it pays to get each NPC's health down a bit as the last one will run and if he is full health it can be a issue.

Another good idea is get web to trap them all, and on top of that you can KITE them quite far from the alarm and then use web etc... works quite well.

I do believe its possible to get to level 5 before this fight however. I'm at level 6 and finding fights quite easy on challenging, starting to wonder if it would be worth restarting on hard sometime once I get a better understanding of skills and classes.

Also the stag lord fight is easy because you can recruit LOTS of aid from 3 sources, OwlBear, that lady at gate, and the stag lords right hand man. You can technically just sit back and watch ;)

The hardest fight might be the top right corner where two bosses camp and have quite good buffs and spells.

From my experience
If you turn his 2nd in command and have a bear ready, you can position yourself the way so bear + the traitor will wipe out 50% of staglord team on their own. Just make sure you are in field of view of the cage, so owlbear triggers straight away and move to destroy the door. He will intercept assassins aswell, and with traitor running rambo with rage, you can pick your targets. If done right, you can skip around 30% of enemies in the fort and kill staglord without triggering them.

Provided you've got lots of days on the clock there's no harm in exploring the rest of the world map first. You ought to be able to get comfortably to level 5 if you've been everywhere.

No it's how it works, the bear will wait the start of combat to leave the cage itself. But it does it a little bit after the rogues outside. For the second I don't know I never had the chance to bring him on my side.

That's wrong, if you fail the palisade check you have no chance to get help from stag lords right hand man. Then I read you need pass another check during a dialog.

And same for the bear you need a succeed check I think.

And no way checks are guaranteed.

Go back to the ford where you found Jhod, to the South East of the bandit camp is a blanket, with perception you can interact with it, you will find some wine, have someone with high nature poison it. Also, if you have a good charcter, when you first find Jhod you can convince the bandits to turn against the Staglord, they will show up at his fort, and when you meet them, you can convince them to help you during the fight. Enter the camp via the break in the fort wall on the North West. Sneak arroud the camp first. Convince his lieutenant to join you, he is a realy good fighter, then kill everyone possible (make sure they don't sound the alarm) use the neutral option on the Owlbear so it will fight on your side, kill the other generals in the North East of the fort. Head out to the front of the fort, but before you get too close and the cut scene starts, buff with potions and scrolls as needed, start the battle, take out the cleric first with Amiri and have Valerie focus on the fighters. Send another fighter up the ramp after the staglord, have a mage or bard support them. Your team along with the owlbear lieutenant, and bandits outnumber the staglord and his goons significantly, and the staglord is weakend from the poison. Your team should finish off the goons rather quickly, and once they do focus everything on the Staglord.

Make love with that owlbear, owlbears in this game are stronger than dragons.

They're as stong as Crag Linnorm in the ruel set, they just lack the HP and skills.

I had an easier time killing that Linnorm than I did fighting a group of owlbears.

Calm owlbear, start a fight by luring some enemies to you, w pet or take off armor or spell, after some time he will come out, can solo most of goons. You can buff him with mage armor/dexterity etc, heal him and he will wipe everyone solo.

On unfair he can only kill max 2, depending on your luck tho.

Done it on lvl 4 unfair, it was probably hardest battle ive done so far, lots of kiting and strategic placement required.
