Okay.. we HAVE to fix the inability to dispel field spells
Hey everyone. I've reached 8th level so far and am using Octavia as my primary spellcaster. As a transmutation specialist, I gave her the Obsidian Flow spell to use for crowd control. The first time I used it, I thought maybe it would last minutes per level like the Web spell does, only to find out it lasts 1 HOUR. This is a problem because it's blocking my path into the dungeon I'm trying to explore, so to keep going I have to walk over my own spell and take absurd damage just to keep progressing.
This is kind of inexcusable. We should have the ability to turn off our own spells. A similar issue exists when polymorphing. Need to get out of your polymorphed spell? Well, you need to wait several minutes before the spell just expires. Otherwise, you have to cast dispel spells on your own effects and that's just obnoxious.
I think this is urgent because it's damaging to the overall experience. I hope the devs see this and can implement the feature to fix the issue.

Isn't the obsidian flow damage only on cast?

Edit: But yes, i agree that it would be great to be able to dismiss spells like web\entangle and obsidian flow.

It also does damage if you get stuck in it by failing a check.

I read the description of the spell online and it reads
Duration instantaneous
"You convert a thin layer of the ground to molten glass that cools quickly. Creatures in the area take 1d6 points of fire damage per two caster levels (maximum of 10d6) and become entangled."

Doesn't this mean that the spell changes instantly the topology of the area by changing the ground to glass? Why is there a duration in PK?

A: You can get entangled. That alone is infuriating.
B: In PK you can fail an Athletics/Mobility check of 15 on the obsidian flow and take 1d6 damage every time you do so.

Not sure if 1d6 is "Absurd damage"

Dispel Magic works.

The point is that I shouldn't need to expend a 3rd level spell to call off an ability used by my own caster.

It's not just 1d6, it's 1d6 every time you fail the check; characters like Harrim will continually do this, get entangled again, until they slowly run out of HP or you roll a 20.

no need to expend a slot. If you really like the spell just stock up on some scrolls of dispell magic.

Have you seen a way to craft dispell magic scrolls? Or just buy from vendor? I haven't seen any for sale yet.

Obsidian Flow's duration is instantaneous. Meaning it being undispellable at-will is following the tabletop rules. For comparison, look at a spell like Entagle: it's duration is 1 min/level (D). The (D) stands for being dispellable at-will by the caster (by using a standard action to do so).

Now, I gather there's no automatic at-will dispelling of your spells in the game, but still, the spell that causes Obsidian Flow's effect is instantaneous and then gone, much like a Fireball's effect: after the explosion, the spell's gone and the effects remain -- nothing to dispel.
