Its a passive skill that has an automatic chance of procing on an attack.

did you see it proc ever? screenshot would be nice

according to the actual pathfinder rules it SHOULD be a toggle ability

as far as i could tell testing it it is bugged and simply does nothing

Why would it be toggle? It's extra damage and if you can only do a standard attack there isn't any negative to it?
Babbles Oct 4, 2018 @ 4:12am
Because it is implied you sacrifice your additional attacks at lower to hit for one big hit - but there is no toggle at all, so what happens for a level 20 fighter? they give up 3 extra attacks for one extra 1D8 on their long sword without a toggle to turn it off?

I'd meant that if you can only do a standard attack it'd be on, and if you can full attack, you would.

But you're right, a toggle is best so that each person can play how they want!

but the ranged attack feats all have toggles why wouldnt vital strike have one?

Isn't it like cleave - you click it and target an enemy to use it? Also - probably melee, not ranged. Greater Vital Strike would be fun to use with butchering axe or large/huge 2h weapons, or maybe if you move and attack in the same round (if it's possible with GVS), but I would advise against spending two feats on it (Improved Vital Strike isn't needed to be picked before, the most useless feat I guess).

Dumb question, but have you checked the “Abilities” button on your character’s UI? It might not be added to your toolbar automatically. (Just guessing here, I haven’t taken it myself.)

There are a lot of negatives like the fact you only add elemental damage once. So lets say you have a weapon like the frost lightning mace that adds 1d6 frost and 1d6 lightning damage and you have 2 attacks per round and the weapon does 1d8 base.

Then with vital strike hit you get 2d8 +1d6 frost +1d6 electric rather than
1d8+1d8 1d6+1d6 and 1d6+1d6 which is what you would get from 2 hits.

damage modifiers like strength bonus only apply once as well so high strength is wasted. Read the feat description...

there is nothing in the ability section ABSOLUTELY nothing, no toggle, no on demand ability

I would love to know if it is actually working. I have two characters I was going to have use the feat chain.
Falaris Oct 4, 2018 @ 12:33pm
It SHOULD work like this:
When you move and attack, it'll proc, if you stand still and fight, you'll do a full round attack instead. So, basically, yes, it's not quite as good as two attacks, but is a lot better than a regular standard attack.

The bow attacks that has toggles are deadly aim and rapid shot, both of which has pros and cons and you do not allways want to use itt, unlike vital strike, which you allways want to use IF YOU MOVE.

Please check the character that uses it, if you attack someone (click on them so you move towards them and attack) and then check the damage text in the log window. That is when it SHOULD apply. It doesn't combine with cleave unless you get the feats for it, but it does combine with power attack, I believe.

Sometimes you will also want to use Vital Strike when standing still. It’s a single attack that happens at your highest base attack bonus (BAB), unlike a full attack which applies a -5 to hit to additional attack. ( I.e. one Vital Strike hit does more damage than 2 “normal” attacks when one misses.)

That said, you definitely want a toggle for this ability. Someone should report this in the bug forum if it hasn’t been already.
