Custom Character EXP Gap
So, everyone else in the party is level 3, sitting at 5281/9000 but the rogue I JUST BOUGHT is only at 2643/5000, level 2. Will this gap diminish, with said rogue getting increased exp due to the level gap, or am I doomed to have said character eternally behind over 2600 exp?

Yeh seems to be the case. Is there no way to close that gap?

You can save edit the custom mercenary by unzipping the save file in a folder and editing the party.json file. Search for "Experience" field that has 2643 and put it equal to your party EXP. Then replace the unmodified save file with the extracted folder that contains the modified file (no need to rezip). Open the game and load the modified save file then re-save the game using another name to get a proper save file packed again. I use this to test character builds and check what is bugged and what isn't before choosing my builds..

Also to be safe always backup your save files as well before attempting this in case you screw up.

This worked great. It was a bit irritating to hunt it down, but yeah, good as gold.

They really need to address this. Having such a handicap on custom characters makes the already-steep cost absurd. Yes, there's a little silliness of staying level 1 and recruiting a full team for cheap, but I did it at level 2, that's 2000/3100 gold I had down for a single character. They should at LEAST have the same exp...

On windows it's in:

C:\Users\{profile name}\AppData\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Pathfinder Kingmaker\Saved Games

AppData is a hidden folder, so you need to make it visible. And it's a .zks extension, but that's just a .zip

The exp difference will be insignificant in a few levels as exp requirements grow.

Yeah, probably not significant, but the gap is lowest if you buy them all when you're level 1. That's what I do now. By far the cheapest as its only 100 gold each at the moment. You can afford about 18 of them, and have lots of classes available. (Actually I haven't checked if the game would let you buy 18.)
