Wizards and spell levels
I am currently a level 8 wizard and upon leveling up I noticed that if I click show other levels of spells I choose to slot new spells unlocked into lower level slots for my wizard. One such spell is animate dead. I was wondering if this was a bug or if I wizards are able to choose to slot new spells at lower levels.

You get two free spells per level to put in your spellbook. They can be from any level you can cast, though most of the time you'll want to add spells from the highest level you can cast, and rely on scrolls for learning any additional lower level spells you want to acquire. Technically, according to the actual PF rules, if you've specialized in a school of magic, one of the two spells you pick at each level is supposed to be from your specialty school, but the game doesn't enforce that particular rule, so pick whatever you want.

So what is the difference between a level 4 summon monster 4 and a level 1 summon monster 4. Am I not supposed to only be able to put summon monster 4 into a level 4 spell slot

I think theres a bug. I saw this too. a lot of my 1st and second level spells were available to be put into my 3rd level spell slots when levelling, and im playing sorcerer.
To be clear, i only had a level 3 spell slot to learn, but i was able to put any 1st, 2nd or 3rd level spell there.

This bug popped up after the last hotfix. Hopefully they fix it soon.

That's not a bug. You can always put a lower-level spell into a higher-level slot. It's not usually a good idea -- it's a waste of that high-level slot -- but if you really need a specific spell, then you're allowed to do that.

What would be a bug is if you can do the opposite: put a high-level spell into a lower-level slot. Which sounds like what OP says is happening; if so, then it's a definite bug.

It is a bug introduced in the recent hotfix to the hotfix(which broke more than it fixed). While in TT you can put lower level spells in higher level slots, until recently there was no such functionality in game. This bug even allows pulling spells from *different spell lists*, regardless of most kind of level restrictions. I have Ekun with Circle of Death as 1 lvl Ranger spell.

Let's face it, this is a paid beta-test, not a proper release.
