Owlbear don't give a ...
So, what's the story with this guy? I know it was in a cage and it gets out, but this guy is an almost unstoppable killing machine! My dwarf warrior with 27 ac and fighting defensively got 2 shot by him, and then he rampaged on to kill the Stag Lord and half the bandit camp by himself haha. I hid and let him do my work for me,and when I caught up to him, he was dead, but with like all the bosses minions and 12 or so bandits dead at his feet as well.

I mean seriously, owlbear was epic, but he's definitely not cr4. I hit him for something like 80 damage before he ran off and mass murdered bandits. And even if his base attack of +5 doesn't include his str bonus for str 19, his attacks wouldn't hit every single round anyone less than a 25ac, and over 50% of 29! Is this a super jacked up owlbear for some reason compared to your standard owlbear from the books? Was he a dire owlbear?

Don't get me wrong, he was epic. just wondering what his deal is.

lock his cage before engaging to keep him from breaking out and kicking your ass

If he was weak he wouldn't really be able to help you against bandits.

Take a Rogue and insta-kill it if you want.

Mirror Image doesn't care.

There are some encounters who is over powereed consider your party CR - espcecially if u play hard or challenge mode with over 1.0 damage to party with normal crits. Right now I suggest to play damage to party at 0.5 or 0.6, because it don`t feel like pathfinder monster manual at all. It`s very scripted to this campaign world throughout the first chapters including random encounters which often is story encounters. I`ve started over like 20 times now, because it`s fun to create new characters, and not always happy, but treasure need to be more random and encounters within party CR. I understand if u see a Troll at low level - a good advice is don`t engange it..

What I would love to see is more random treasures and encounters in Caves, dungeons, and Underdark if you are starting a new game. And we need sub races with gnomes, dwarfs, elves if they are aiming for an expansion later, and maybe some new classes like an Oracle?

A 3rd level or so mage taking on owlbear, mirror image or not, is a dead mage.

If you have good nature skill(i think) and make your roll you can have him join your side in the battle... makes the fight super easy.

He doesn't help so much help as fight them for you.
