Pro Tip: Wizard
I know that you want to play a wizard, but here is a pro tip. Instead of choosing wizard at character creation for your class pick rogue. (build your characters stats for wizard though) When you get to olegs you will reach lv 2 and can then pick wizard.

Reasoning: You want to be a wizard to cast spells. 0 lv cantrip spells deal 1d3 damage. By take rogue at level 1 you gain the ability to 'sneak attack' at range. Sneak attacks add 1d6 damage to your cantrips. Sooooo. Instead of dealing 1d3 damage once you hit olegs you'll deal up to 9 damage on your cantrip attacks, and other wizard spells.

But wait, theres more. Low level wizard skills, A) suck B) are weak. You'll be using your crossbow a lot. By using your crossbow you will hit up to 20 points of damage using sneak attack. So while you're going through the intro you'll be a good dps, and after you become a wizard you will reamain so. so 1d3 dps in intro..or up to 20dps in intro..hmm.

Also be sure to take:

Point blank shot
and the other feat that reduces the -4 to range attacks. (true shot?)

So...basically Octavia?

If you're going to multiclass rogue with wizard, you might as well go for the arcane trickster prestige class. There's a feat you can take at third level to increase your sneak attack to 2d6, so when you hit 4th level (i.e. rogue 1, wizard 3), you should then have all the prerequisites (i.e. 2d6 sneak attack and ability to cast second level arcane spells) for going into arcane trickster at 5th level, only having lost one caster level.

I rolled a wiz and promptly rerolled when i noticed Octavia sneak spelling for 15+ dmg while my dex gimped wiz hit for 3 dmg half the time and missed the other half.

Nice tip! Will probably do this. I'm level 2. Still int he mite mines. Mainly using my crossbow as my wizard spells are touch, and my con is only a 7. I can't get close, lol.

Me and linz are sniping the shamans.

take 3 rogue classes instead of just one. the evasion feat alone is worth it. the 9th spell selection is pretty bad so only getting 1 or 2 is by far enough...

Wait, spells can sneak attack in Pathfinder rules?
Damn my limited DnD only knowledge.. thanks for the heads up.

Stick with Wizard with the conjuring school instead and watch as the difficulty dies with each summon.

If you want to do a wizard for dammage, I'd rather do a wizard Evoker (+1/2 level to dammage on evocation spell), and at a later level when you start having level 3 or level 4 spells,1 level of Sorcerer with Dragon bloodline matching the element you want to cast.

That way you add 1/2 your wizard level +1 per dammage dice.

Sure in the first few levels your damage won't be great (take sleep/hypnosis/color spray instead), buy you'll scale much better in high levels than 1d6 sneak attack.

Note that you can mix up, but I don't know how it would add up:
Lvl1 rogue
Lvl2-5 Wizard
Lvl6-15 Arcane Trickster
Lvl16 Sorcerer (or sometime along the way)
Lvl17-20 Wizard

That way, you have level 9 spells, your ranged touch attach does spell dammage +7d6 sneak attack +4 damage +1 dammage per dice

Only ranged touch attacks like the cantrip, snowball and a few others, that can be interesting if you spec into it

Do you one better, play a Eldritch Scoundrel take the same feat at 3rd level and go into at 4th and never lose a caster level. :)

Little Tip from me for dmg wizards with rogue. Go the ranged feats but dont use crossbow and really use your level 0 cantrips because they are Touch. Your crossbow doesnt do 20dmg If it doesnt Hit. And hitting Touch ac against Front Line? Sure Thing.

Splitting even 1 level anywhere means that at many points in game, while pure caster would already have say 5th level spells, you'd be stuck with 4th level spells on some adventure. You can see that with Octavia. And getting levels in this game takes some time.

There is a way simplier solution than wasting a level on an extra d6 damage from your crossbow - max Use Magic Device and spam srolls and wands. A simple low levelish wand of magic missile is a 3d level caster item, autohitting for 2d4+2 force damage regardless of enemy AC. And Scroll Sage after level 10 I think treats all scrolls as his own level, and there are a lot of scrolls in this game.
