I mean it did take like, a dozen tries, but I just had to keep trying different strategies until I found one that worked.
But it would certainly help if we knew your party. I did it personally with Valerie, Amiri, Linzi, Jubi, and Harrim. And my protag is Eldritch Scion.
I wouldn't normally use Jubi or Harrim, but since they had character quests there, I brought them along...
Jubi's quest finishes once you enter the location, you can swap him out afterwards.
How did you manage to prevent him from casting the haste spell?
The usual way. Hit him in the face, and kill him before he can do much. He is fairly squishy, and that was the only way I could win that fight was to kill him before he could provide much support. The Troll King is still really tough, but without getting buffed or having a spellcaster dealing out extra damage, he's much more managable.
he still decimates me pretty quickly. And i am fully buffed... i wouldnt go in otherwise lol, i can kill him if my fighter stays alive longer then 3 seconds... which doesnt happen very often...
Edit: when you beat him down and talk to him least as an evil character he basically stands back up and fully heals.
