Optimal Sorcerer Build
I'm considering a Sorcerer for my next play through. I've heard some folks are able to get their spell DCs to level 50, which is high enough to effect mobs that actually matter. How do folks do this? What is the optimum sorcerer build?

The short answer is probably through optimal charisma equipment + arcane sorcerer bloodline. That probably gets you the highest DCs as a sorcerer.

Whether it's the most optimal sorcerer. Arguable (Sylvan Sorcerer is really, really good too with the pet).

Sylvan sure is #1 unfair sorc. Mostly due ti the ability to lure mobs around wiht a pet. As for the builds you can look on gog forums. It'll take too long otherwise.

@InEffect Did you post a Sorc build on GoG? If so I'll look for it.
There are now items that add Profane boni to INT so I am not sure CHA is highest.

There is new profane +4 Int Staff and (only for evils) and +2 Int, Wis and Cha neck. So it only -1 DC difference from Profane bonuses.
My Wizard based AT was able to get 40 Int on last run.
You can put some p. neat thingies on your neck tho.

The neck item might be the one you get from the varnholms lot dlc (+2 mental -3 physical stats).
Just a quick calculation on Sorcerer DC - I got 45, but only on Weird - as there are a lot of illusion DC boosting items in the game, and taking 2 levels in alchemist for a +4 Cha boost

+10 Base
+9 Spell level
+2 Greater Spell Focus
+2 School Power
+1 Gnome Racial
+7 CHA base (24 @ level 20)
+4 CHA from hat of ment. perf. +8
+1 CHA from ring of circumstances
+1 DC boost from ring of circumstances
+2 Ring of Reckless Courage
+1 Bracer (Golden Vision, +1 Illusion DC)
+2 Amulet (Maya's Charm, +2 illusion DC, good only)
+1 from Artisan Master Potion (not guaranteed)
+2 from 2 lvls of Alchemist

Total = 45 DC

So close, but at least based on the items I've found, no 50 :)

The above is strictly DC theory-craft. I personally would not sacrifice 2 levels of Sorc for Alchemist, etc.

@Tommyc434 Wow! How does the alchemist levels help? Is the +CHA from alchemy potion an alchemical bonus that stacks or something?

p.s. I found the staff its in Varnholds lot. Of course I am not sure yet how items transfer from the DLC to the main game...

only problem being it's illusion so rolls against Will and that's no good. I'd sooner settle for cloak of lost souls and necro dagger

everything you really care about does have rather high will saves. And with illusion you have to beat those twice.

Arcane Conjuration Sorc is still the top dog. With heightened stinking clouds, summons, rays and a bit of acid AoE. Mostly cause stinking cloud attacks Fort that is the lowest save of WH and summpns are always good.

Sylvan is much the same but trades 2DC for a pet,

Yes, exactly that - essentially another 4 CHA (+2), since strictly for spell DC your caster level doesn't matter, just spell level.


Same calculation for Necro Sorc (Wail for level 9):

+10 Base
+9 Spell level
+2 Greater Spell Focus
+2 School Power
+7 CHA base (24 @ level 20)

Switch out: +1 Golden Vision // Amulet of Dying Wisdom

Wail is 1 save vs. Weird's 2 saves. However, Weird does kill outright whereas Wail is 10 dmg per level - meaning you won't kill with just one in the late game.

fort late is better cause fort on all WH is like 10 points lower than will. so you DC 40 fort spell would be as effective as 50DC will spell.

As far as "Optimal" sorcs go conjuerer its head and shoulders above everyone else.
