cannot recall if "Dog" is a possible companion or if there's just wolf, and if they are, dont know if they get trips on their bites
so, best companions for mad dog are one of the mentioned, leopard is cool for not getting too big(the huge wolf gettings annoying) and having high DEX, monitor lizard gets a poison that hurts DEX on failed saves on every bite, and wolf is just really strong
from my experience i havent had MUCH trouble getting leopard or lizard to trip, granted there are SOME late game enemies with ridiculously high CMB
tip, sorta spoilery: theres a cloak that gives u(the player, not the animal) bonus 1d6 cold dmg on bites and a free trip attempt on bites, barbarians can get a bite attack while raging via the Animal Fury rage power
i'm pretty sure every bite is a trip attempt on the companions i mentioned, but only those(same for any other animals of the same kind u find around)
Wolf and Dog start with only a single Bite, but eventually gain 2 more bites for a total of 3 bites: 3 Trip attempts (with much better CMB too).
