I am at the beginning of the game, is this a joke? I literally just made my character. You can't use your spells when you start the game?
not if you change them. you had to change them before you rested
reload and change your spells in your book before you rest (exit the first area)
You made an herald caller?
Don't you have an arrow on the spells you memorize so you can change your spell to an heal or summon?
Another thing to note as a Herald Caller: You don't have to memorize/prepare Summon Monster I-IX spells unless you want to use meta magic feats (like extend) with them.
Instead, you memorize/prepare other spells and when needed, cast those prepared spells as if they were a prepared summon monster spell of the same spell level. So you can prepare/memorize Shield of Faith and then in a fight, toggle the up arrow button on the spell icon in your quickbar to either cast it as a cure healing spell (like other clerics or inflict wounds for evil clerics) or cast it as a summon monster spell (unique to Herald Caller).
Edits: Fixed memorized/prepared references lol
Even compared to base cleric
People here use to recommend ecclesitheurge who gets spells from several domains.
Sorcerer is arcane spellcaster, not divine, they have different spell list
Yep Sorcerers do have more casting flexibility, but less spell selection. Herald Caller acts sort of like a Sorcerer when it comes to casting summons though, because of the mechanics stated above. Sorcerers and spontaneous casters in general don't memorize spells. They just get a number of spells they can cast per rest per spell level and can cast any spell from their spellbook without memorization. You still have to rest to restore spells per day though, but you don't have to select one spell over another before heading out on adventures. You can cast what you want when you need it.
This is true. Even before the game came out I was researching Herald Caller and even in PnP, it's seen as a semi-trap because of these reasons.
