no suitable spell slots
I made cleric herald with 20 wisdom and I can't summon with summon I spell. It says that no slot are available.

What is this? I picked spell focus and conjuration during character creation, maybe this is a problem?

are you clicking the arrow above the spell that you currently have at least 1 use of? A spell from your spell list, not your ability bar

I went into the spell book, memorized summon one 1 spell, placed it on the quick select bar, cannot use it. The game states that wisdom is the most important for clerics so I put 20 points total in it, but this seems to be a lie, since I can't use the basic summoner spell that a herald class offers, it shows 0 next to it. I can use radiant positive energy, just fine for some reason. And as far as I can tell, I cant use any spell from LEvel 1 in spellbook, all of them show 0 next to them.

Have you fully rested after changing spells in spellbook?

I am at the beginning of the game, is this a joke? I literally just made my character. You can't use your spells when you start the game?

not if you change them. you had to change them before you rested

reload and change your spells in your book before you rest (exit the first area)

Ok, so I tried to to make it a 2nd time, and what do you know? I dont have the monster spell on quick bar, in order for it to appear, I must memorize it 1st.

You made an herald caller?
Don't you have an arrow on the spells you memorize so you can change your spell to an heal or summon?

Its still 0, even if i click on the arrow on a spell that already is present in the bar.

In order to cast any spell, you first have to memorize then prepare it. To memorize a spell you have to add it to the memorized spell list (the spell slots to the left in your spell book). If you don't rest, a memorized spell will have 0 charges. After memorizing, you will have to rest in order to prepare it, which will allow you to cast the spell. Everytime you change a prepared spell out for another spell or use a spell, you have to rest in order to restore said memorized spell or new spell to prepared the slot again.

Another thing to note as a Herald Caller: You don't have to memorize/prepare Summon Monster I-IX spells unless you want to use meta magic feats (like extend) with them.

Instead, you memorize/prepare other spells and when needed, cast those prepared spells as if they were a prepared summon monster spell of the same spell level. So you can prepare/memorize Shield of Faith and then in a fight, toggle the up arrow button on the spell icon in your quickbar to either cast it as a cure healing spell (like other clerics or inflict wounds for evil clerics) or cast it as a summon monster spell (unique to Herald Caller).

Edits: Fixed memorized/prepared references lol

Play a Sorcerer, they're easier to play.

I think, for a cleric, the herald caller arquetype is not worth the domain power and extra spell you lose (if a good domain is taken, like animal, knowledge, community, water).
Even compared to base cleric

People here use to recommend ecclesitheurge who gets spells from several domains.

Sorcerer is arcane spellcaster, not divine, they have different spell list

Yep Sorcerers do have more casting flexibility, but less spell selection. Herald Caller acts sort of like a Sorcerer when it comes to casting summons though, because of the mechanics stated above. Sorcerers and spontaneous casters in general don't memorize spells. They just get a number of spells they can cast per rest per spell level and can cast any spell from their spellbook without memorization. You still have to rest to restore spells per day though, but you don't have to select one spell over another before heading out on adventures. You can cast what you want when you need it.

This is true. Even before the game came out I was researching Herald Caller and even in PnP, it's seen as a semi-trap because of these reasons.

Ok, I get it now, I mistook that slot thing's purpse. One slot equals 1 use, thats how this works. I must try monster tactician because these summons last only 30 seconds...
