Must have sold it to somebody I am forgetting, been to the fishing village vendor, oleg, all the vendors in the capital including the innkeeper herself (merchant in varnhold too). Is there a vendor around talon peak that im forgetting?
There's his initial stock in the early stages of Troll Trouble, then new stock on Troll Trouble quest advancement by testing alchemist potions or when the timer in troll trouble causes his area to change, then finally post troll trouble stock if he's saved, stays or becomes an advisor.
Other than him that's all the merchants you should have early on if you don't have any new villages created. What about the Alchemist merchant/artisan at Oleg's?
I tried going back to the nest to see if there would be another fight/egg after getting the quest but no luck. Hope the devs change it around a little with the egg and make it a quest item or atleast give the option to get some later.
Another thing you could try is using Bag of Tricks mod from nexus just to add one back to your inventory. :)
Double check your Stash too if you have a lot of stuff in there. It may be hiding.
The only thing I can think of as well is that you sold it possibly to the new random encounter merchant from EE update. The undead one.
If you remember encountering him, that may be where the egg is at and he pops up regularly too.
It would be nice if the Devs made some QoL changes to these types of semi-quest items to help prevent these types of issues with them.
Not like it woulda been HARD... just set a trigger for every quest that the item isn't placed until you receive the quest. They have done this with at least ONE side quest in the middle of the game that breadcrumbs back to a zone from chapter 1...
or even better... just add 1 of each of these items to that skeletal trader's inventory... or maybe to the trader from Tenebrous Depths... but at an exorbitant price. Say it's worth like 5k, you're paying 20k to get it from them and be lazy.
