Protection from Arrows
Does this spell work correctly or did I misunderstand how it's supposed to function? I was fighting against goblins, decided to use this spell as most of them were using bows. They would still damage me and there wasn't any damage reduction. Once I killed them, looting revealed they all had basic bows - only one was masterwork and the rest were basic...not a single magical bow among them.

It's damage reduction, NOT immunity to all ranged... reread it..

Perhaps you didn't read my post - where I literally said "damage reduction". When I reviewed the damage roll, there was no -10 to the damage rolled.

You should press F11 in-game and report the bug. That's a major hassle if it doesn't work.

In my experience it only works sporadically, I haven't been able to find what triggers it. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes the reduction shows up in the combat log, but it never registers on the martial tab of the char sheet as far as I can tell.

You're not misunderstanding anything, it's broken.

I used a lot of protection from arrows in the Varn DLC. I do know it was working in that, but I cant say for the main game. If I ever cast it in the main game, I already have some form of DR on already. Il check it out when I get to using it this paythrough.

Are you using any mods by chance?

I know there is a feat that archers can have that ignores DR (I am using a lot of hand waving there), so my guess is they had that feat

No mods, just had an encounter where it worked fine so who knows...

There is a feat that makes it so when you have a full round of attacks, all the DR of that entire round is absorbed on the first arrow. Something like that (I dont know full details hence the hand waving). So the enemy probably had this feat because it allows archers to bypass DR

That's clustered shot. It requires many other feats and +6 BAB, so it seems unlikely goblins would have it (unless they are high level goblins). He should still see DR on some of the arrows (but I don't know how it is reported in the log when this feat is used).

If I recall it shows the reduction in the log same as other types of DR, when its working. But I've never seen it on the char sheet with the other resistances. I'd really like to know whats causing the problem because its a really handy spell, I just want to know when its going to let me down lol. Like Dixon noted, I was able to use it to keep the centaurs and skelly champs from bow critting my MC in Varnhold, but Hargulka's kobolds blew through it like it wasn't there. I even made a zoologist toon to inspect feat lists ... at the time I was thinking maybe the boomsayers were arcane striking me or somesuch. This was more than a month ago, I don't remember finding anything relevant. It is a mystery.

Once the spell has prevented a total of 10 points of damage per caster level (maximum 100 points), it is discharged. That makes a big difference if the monster scores a critical hit. The subject gains damage reduction 10/magic against ranged weapons only. That means any magical properties will damage as normal.

If you give good/neutral responses at the kobold camp, they’ll sit out the boss fight.
