Quick question - Halfling vs Asimar for Monk Tank
Which is better? Halfling probably comes out a little ahead right?

I like Halfling, but then again I am biased towards Aasimars because of throse sweet wings.

I can't see halfling as as ahead. size bonus comes at level 1 and wings come later, but asimar gets 2 stats that can both affect AC if you work it that direction. What advantage do you seek? Pure unhittable?

Halfling gets Cautious Fighter, which is super good for dex based tanks.

What's your opinion on mods? Cuz if you're ok with mods that add stuff from pnp there's at least one mod out there that introduces racial variants.

I mention this because you can drop your mostly useless spell like ability for a MUCH more useful +2 stat of your choice. Yes, including charisma or dex and it stacks.

Hell, if you want to really get cheesy you could go tiefling div/rahkshasa (depending on if you'd rather take a hit to int or wis), and do the same thing since tieflings have access to it as well. In addition they have the ability to drop their 5 resitance to all elements and replace it with 5 resistance to one element and a racial +1 natural armor.

true. so .5's get +3 to ac.
I forgot pathfinder .5s get cha, so the stats to ac are equally good. but .5s lose str, so they come out a couple of points lower on stats overall. minor.
wings... give +3 dodge ac. Its a wash, but again, wings come late.

got anything that tilts the scales any more than this?

angels have the elemental resists. Most of the spells are lame. your choices that keep the AC option open are glitterdust, invisibility, or searing light. Glitterdust can be rough (aoe blind) but its easy to save against.

I thought cautious fighter was well worth it on my halfling psycho/sensei. Probably the tankiest tank I've rolled.

Gonna take some serious work to get a small monk to do any kind of damage though. Not sure the better AC is worth the tradeoff with Aasimar. Will be slower than the Aasimar too.

I think I'll go with halfling like I did before.. Thanks for the feedback guys. I mainly want the highest AC and saves achievable. Not too worried about elemental resists, those never have been much of a threat on my last playthrough. I don't have the DLC so tiefling is no go for me =/ Making my 1st companion by the way :) Plan on making all my companions mercs this time around..

My monk isn't expected to any damage actually, just tank. Will Sensei get me same or better AC than regular monk class?

Lol, not everything has to be about powergaming. I like halfling because their cute looking, and I like aasimar because of their wings.

I went Sensei with my halfling tank to work in conjunction with Psychokineticist, which was his primary class. Insightful strike let me pour everything into Wisdom and raise his AC, hitroll and damage at the same time.

For a pure monk tank it's probably not great. You get to add your wis bonus to monk attacks but you give up flurry and fast movement. Oh and you'd get a bard song. The move speed is a real issue for the halflings though. Same AC as the other wis based monk archetypes.

I'll stick with normal monk then, thanks :)

Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, I roll a lot of halfings, monk is a fun build that will fill the tank role you want nicely.

Thanks. Actually I already had a halfling monk tank on my last playthrough, he was reaaaally tanky against those hunters. Thought I might have a reason to switch it up but.. I guess not.

Depends if you like damage. And whether you'll have tons of bonus damage (like sneak attacks). Because if his fists/weapons are to be his source of damage, small size will hurt. If he will be a sneaky stabber (like a knife master) or you don't mind him dealing low damage, go ahead.
