Rulebook? Where can I find that for this game.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/use-magic-device
Thats the rulebook for pnp. Unless you are suggesting I should be able to use use magic device to equip items for different alignments or classes and the game is bugged.
Read the part about dc's in the link first, specifically about activating magic from other classes (divine instead of arcane) and see if that answers your question?
If you read the description for Use Magic Device in the in-game Encyclopedia it says one of its uses is to allow you to equip a magic item you normally would not be able to equip, so YES you should be able to do that. Unfortunately I haven't found a Holy Avenger to test that theory.
While I am glad they're implementing rules as written in PnP, it is completely misleading to list a DC of 11 on this scroll when I have to check against a 21.
Similarly, I have a wand of Cure Moderate Wounds that says the DC is 13, but obviously it is 20.
I have no issue with this except it is confusing as a player to fail against a DC that is not what is written on the actual item. They should change it to reflect the rulebook if they are implementing it that way...this effectively makes UMD a useless skill until midgame at best.
You can get it above 10 at level 1 without feats, cant you?
But I agree the descriptions are misleading
If I'm not mistaken the DC for the Cure Moderate Wounds wand is the DC to resist the spell which is 10 + spell level (if you use it on undead they'd have to make a DC 13 Will save to half the damage).
What's confusing is they use the same formula for harmless spells. That's why it says Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) for Shield of Faith in PnP (and for a scroll the DC would be 11).
You can get +10 to your UMD check at Level 1 if your Charisma is 22 and UMD is a Class skill.
It happens in the actual (not computer) RPG. I once had a high level Oracle wielding a Holy Avenger.
