Amiri's Sword Classification
So I am leveling up the companions manually and I am curious what specification is Amiri's oversized bastard sword so I can take the appropriate weapon focus and specialization. Is it still considered a bastard sword or a greatsword?

Its a bastard sword.

You are better off not specializing in that but that's what the new respec option in EE is for!

Its worth the specialization imo because its an exotic weapon and she already has the feat to use it. There are other good bastard swords out there and the cool thing about the bastard swords (its justification for being exotic) is that you can wield it as a one handed or a 2 handed. meaning you can have a defensive build (sword and shield) and offensive build (2-handed) with the same specialization (but 2 different bastard swords)

True. But you can still find far better weapons for Amiri pretty soon, depending on how you build her of course.

Her original sword is meh, but bastard sword is a fine weapon if u make a classic barb out of her

And despite other things, her sword is not so bad, especially if you enlarge her. Later you get a chance to enchant it too. It stays the bastard sword with the most and largest dice, though. Some of the others have some frills, but when you look closely, they are not all that great - for example, energy damage gets negated by many critters with resistance to it.

Hi there. Is there a mod or way of setting her sword as a regular greatsword?

It works fine since you start with it and it's a +1 weapon for free. 2D8+1 damage is good at low levels, but you'll very quickly change it since just doing the sycamore will net you a +1 greatsword which at 2d6+1 with no penalty to attack is superior. Then you get the Acidic Axe during the troll quest and it just gets better from there. The upgrade her sword gets from completing her quest makes it a +4 weapon with the furious quality so decent again, but by that time you'll have far better two handed weapons. In the house at the edge of time you can pick up the final version of the weapon with a +5 frost version of the blade. Also decent but by then she'll have the lava axe, the +5 axiomatic greataxe or the Incorruptible petal, all far supperior weapons.

Honestly her weapon isn't that bad, it's just that the game is chock full of truly good two handed weapons that simply outclass it that there's no reason to use it for long

This is right, but not quite right enough.

There are a ton of great two-handers throughout the course of the game and you can get Shatter Defenses/Dreadful Carnage through Combat Style Feats without wasting a feat on Weapon Focus. It's not the end of the world if you have to though, just don't feel married to Bastard Sword.

Khanda's solid too and Ovrinbaane gives her a bunch of great spells. But through most of the game you'll be using the appropriate Bane Weapon.

I usually reserve the Khanda for Valerie in non-kinetic knight builds since the bonuses world well with how I usually build her while the poison effect rarely if ever goes through in higher difficulties the bonuses to resistance it bestows work well. Even with almost zero optimization to AC/tanking she usually walks around with 45+ ac with a tower shield, with buffs, outflank and weapon specialization feat tree works well to keep her on the front line while Amiri either has a reach weapon or uses a better two hander.

By then you should have the Lava Axe, which unless you are going for a tripping 2H build with fauchard is the pure best two-hander you can get for a DPS build unless you need to smash through DR that requires specific alignment based weapons which in this game is usually lawful. Hence why the +5 keen axiomatic great axe you get killing the annoying fiend in the archmage spellbook side quest is a good weapon to keep around. Especially since it works of the Spawn.

I’ve got Dreadful Cleave Thug on Amiri so Khanda is nice there. Poison can proc here and there with Archon’s, Shaken, and Sickened (Brutal Beating) debuffing saves. Fort is weak save late. Axiomatic Axe solid too.

Vanquisher would like to have a word with you.

I am surprised none of you answered this correctly. The answer is there are two distinct types of bastard sword. A regular one and an enlarged one. If you take feats in one type of sword, it does not effect the other type.

Also, weapon mastery for the enlarged bastard sword is missing from the game.

Not sure if that's the case in the video game or not but I know in the tabletop game both would be considered Bastard Swords. Weapon Focus and the like, in tabletop at least, don't care what the weapon was sized for just what type of weapon it is.
