This is a really fun rogue-like; don't let the cute pixilized graphics or the mobile device roots fool you. There is a lot of depth and a ton of content here without being overly complicated. Another reviewer said there was no skill involved - only luck, so the game could not hold your interest for long . Au contraire! The skill is not in clicking on an enemy over and over to finish them off; it is knowing which enemy to click and when, and what potions to buy and when to use them, etc.. It's not easy but is not stingy with rewards.

Hmm tantalizing to play I found it very good to play it pixel game that you can see clearly what your trying play its arty and makes you feel your not in game but in action like adventure. However game play feels like chess and stragedy...like wizard chess from Harry potter but without chair whacking.
Its pretty good and gets me feeling I could play it without worrying about making moves and having to wait for moves and yes that is nice game to have in your collection, problem is your against mobs you don't see in wizards chess snakes and undead oh my. I wonder if vampires in there somewhere anything more they throw at me. Oh yes dragons...
I look forward to playing more it was tanatalizing...it was pretty good.

Except for those crystals you could earn and gold coins after three play through don't worry about them too much. 40 crystals after which they earnable people. Don't assume they are pay to win game I believe you can earn 2 win the game I got load of loot on third map...if your playing something that is element of character it might doable.

Paladin is doable for grim castle while I think wizard is doable for either cave or forest same for that rogue could be either those maps.

Re-word that first unlockable characters you have is, Wizard, warrior, rogue, and paladin.

If your thinking of feeling sucks don't ask me How I surivived I be will be back play more I playing it as Paladin, I was having fun just don't play forest one until you level your character up enough I think. I want to have one more way through seems that I didn't journey on more there on grim castle there more levels I didn't know that...lol.
I have to return later... killing unead was kind cooler then snakes..no offense intended to people who make snake art all day just that it hard to survive that one almost poison to point near death.

A nice RPG with an old school flavour, not worth a full price of 10€ but definitely deserves a playthrough on sale to me :)
I saw both many negative reviews and also someone that said I think this is a smartphone port or such, well, graphics to me are really great and every detail seem to be at its right place, I really loved the environment :)
If you're accustomed to rogue-like RPGs you won't need a thorough tutorial and probably this is a downside since the game lacks a proper introduction but anyways it's still ok.
Being a rogue-like/dungeon game of course it can also be repetitive but you've got to explore lots of different areas and if on one side of course it's clear that the game hasn't been programmed with a great financial budged on the other side everything is really fine and looks perfect, especially if you like the retro SNES RPGs, and not only graphically but also for what concerns the whole gameplay.
The mechanics are quite standard: you start in a SNES-like map, there are towns in which recruit heroes and lots of items and dungeons which are randomly generated. I don't regret at all having spent like 50 or more hours on it, I'm a fan of any kind of turn-based/tactical/retro RPG and this one, even if it's a sort of "indie smartphone" game manages to stand out from many others similar RPG with less polishing and attention.
As I have always stated, I don't play anything on mobile and so I don't know if they're right or wrong when they say that this game is more enjoyable on mobile. To me, it's proven completely enjoyable on my laptop and I had no problems at all, even because of course it's not that hard for what concerns gameplay and world exploring so you won't need XBOX controllers or such.
Of course, you must be kinda prepared, or into this genre 'cos it will require lots of grinding, killing, upgrading/crafting items (there's like 500 or 600 equippable or craftable items if I'm not wrong) and going through lots of dungeons, hence 10€ it's a big price but on sale (as I bought it during the summer sales I think) it's definitely a nice RPG - bear also in mind that my hours are a little bit too much due to how my playing style's made of but the developer stated that 20 hours are the right duration for a good and satisfying playthrough so that's it :)

As others have said, it's a bit light on the gameplay side, and it's clearly meant to be a mobile game. That being said, it's still decent IMO and while I wouldn't say it's worth $11, it might be worth picking up on sale.

Dragon's Dungeon: Awakening is a roguelike dungeon crawler harking back to the very first origins of the genre - ASCII dungeons such as Rogue itself, Angband and derivatives. It has 25 levels across 5 different areas, as well as 5 quests for each area. The store page boasts 600 items and 150 monsters, which I haven't personally counted, but sounds reasonable enough. There are 7 classes, each with a different skillset and a skill tree that upgrades as you level - although it can be a lot of work to unlock it. There is a town, with crafting and a way to boost your character with gems - permanent upgrades that make this a roguelike rather than a true rogue. In this sense, like many roguelikes, you're meant to die sometimes - start again and get stronger.


It falls a bit flat as although there may be many monsters and items and levels, everything feels very much the same once you enter an area. Even fighting a boss doesn't feel significantly different to me. The first true boss I encounter simply summoned more of the monsters I've already been fighting until he ran out of mana, then I hit him in the face until he died. Each area does have a different feel to it, but with 25 levels to each, it starts feeling like a grind very early on. Mana classes are very weak and will struggle, having to upgrade at town quite a lot. I had the most success with my warrior, who managed to get to level 15 of the first area before I ran out of health potions.


The gems you get for upgrading are quite limited and you can spend them on items, potions, skill points, in unlocking new classes or unlocking a new area. Spend them very wisely - I recommend maxing out your skill points first, as this will unlock new skills and passive bonuses. If you don't do this, it can be quite hard to reach new skills, leaving you with one ability for a long time. You never automatically get a skill; you need to follow the progression on the upgrade tree to unlock the question marks.


The first time you complete a level you'll want to kill absolutely everything for experience before going down a level, or you will quickly find yourself at risk of death. For weaker characters - such as the mage who is incredibly fragile - you're going to have to skirt around creatures and try to get the chests and upgrades without fighting too much until you're a bit stronger. Classes definitely do not feel balanced, and it's a shame that the most boring character, Mr Hit 'em In The Face Until They're Dead Warrrior is by far the easiest and strongest to play. I really love squishy long-range characters but without the right mana balance it just feels frustrating as getting punched in the face is pretty much K.O.

Although I enjoy this sort of gameplay and I like the amount of content in the game, it just didn't really have a visceral feeling of fun or any compelling reason to play longer than 15-30 minutes at a time. I admire the concept, but something didn't quite click for me. I have gone back to it quite a few times to get a full idea of the gameplay and it's definitely more fun in small game sessions.


Dragon's Dungeon is available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone for $1.99. This is an updated version - hence the "Awakening" name - with more creatures, items and an updated UI, but at the same time, retains the core gameplay. It is hard to understand a pricetag of £6.99 just to play it on Steam over mobile, especially on a title that is entirely suited to mobile play - simple clicks (swipes) and bitesize chunks of gameplay. I would definitely recommend it at $2.

Whilst I have enjoyed the game, I do think it's going to struggle at this price point and wouldn't be surprised to see it heavily discounted in sales or bundled.
