DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION?

In my WARPZONE DRIFTER review I mentioned how abashed I was after playing DRIFTER but not having yet experienced any other of Walter Machado's works and having all of Walter's offerings in my library no less.

UBERMOSH Vol.5, a frenetic 2D twin stick combination shooter / melee imbued with multiple modes including:

GUNNER: Shooter only and the only auto-fire mode (requires trigger press).
KENSAI: Melee only.
WARLOCK, CATALYST, PSYKER, WRAITH, NO CLASS MODS: A combination of melee and shooter with varying re-spawns and parameters.

The UBERMOSH collection[steamdb.info] is an array of evolving arcade titles based on the original game UBERMOSH and fervid user contributions to subsequent titles. Individuals have argued Walter's successive implementations of UBERMOSH were a monetary device designed to enrich and they argued that further product enhancements should of been handled as patches to the original game. In retrospect, I digress in that the collection allows the user to reconnoitre the series entries and enhancements, perhaps select a favorite.

If you own the collection you receive each iteration when released. Walter has Vol 7 arriving soon via a Steam Early Access release.

UBERMOSH 5 (and the collection as a whole (conveniently on sale as of this writing) )): Easy recommendation.

JUst like the rest of the ubermosh games. Endless monsters coming at you while you must fight to survive!

Please don't let this rush end! Vol.6 please!

Pros:

• Fast-paced action
  
• Great "management" feel in the heat of combat
  
• Simply fun gameplay
  
• Major satisfaction when you pull through in a tight situation

Cons:

• A bit repetitive - similar by nature to the previous installments

Another nice continuation to the UBERMOSH series, recommended.

Bulimia nervosa

the best best thing you will BUY today, like other games in the series it plays as fast and smooth as any video game has ever played. one warning: may cause RAGE QUIT syndrome.

All-consuming, all-encompassing - an entire world filled with aliens who want to kill you, rend your flesh, grind your bones into pulp, and vaporize your organs. Hundreds, if not thousands, will try. Unfortunately for them, they're coming up against a four-armed badass, a psychopathic cyberwarrior armed with two swords, two guns and insane lasers, lightning bolts and beams of all kinds. Hundreds will try, and they will fall.

UBERMOSH Vol.5 is the first UBERMOSH game I've played, and I have to say, I'm regretting having scrolled past them on so many Steam sales beforehand. They're a ubiquitous presence in the cheapest sections of the Steam Store and seem to be constantly on sale. I pulled the trigger on it recently because it was so cheap, and it turned out to be a spectacular investment.

You have ninety seconds, a variety of lives (depending on which mode you choose for yourself, which modifies which guns / blades you can use), and an endless, sprawling desert world, where you will spill the blood of thousands of would-be alien gladiators. You will grind them all into dust, atomize them, and cut them in half - if you're good enough. The soundtrack is pulsing, intense - half the fun in and of itself; this is a bullet hell for those who love bullet hells, as well as a great introduction to the genre. I've only played it for half an hour, but I can see myself revisiting it over and over again to try crack these achievements.

In short, a glorious, intense bullet hell that is aggressively indie but gorgeously simple, a warbling, blood-spattered mess of a game. Highly recommended for fans of the genre, or for anyone looking for something they can pick up and play for five minutes at a time. Probably longer, though - I lost half an hour having thought I was just going to play a few rounds. Glorious.
