When you have done that, copy/paste the entire Ageia Technologies directory and put it somewhere temporary like on your desktop.
Then reinstall the latest Nvidia Physx software - As well as installing Nvidia Physx software, it removes most of the Ageia Technologies directory which is really not helpful for the old physx games.
So next you need to copy/paste the Ageia Technologies directory you backed up.. and paste it back to where it came from [default is c:\Program Files x86 -for x64 version of windows.. or c:\Program Files -for x86 version of windows].
I have no idea why Nvidia insist on uninstalling the files required for older physx game compatibility... pain in the A but it works. You can thank Nvidia for breaking game compatibility and doing nothing about it with every release of their software.
That is exactly what I am not willing to do. I don't mind fondling with drivers, registry or other parts of the OS to make games work (old DOS + Linux/Wine user) but not for such a demo.
Wrong!!! nVidia supports both the legacy and the new in the same time!
Installation of the "legacy" does not require the "new" to be uninstalled. Because the "legacy" does not mean "old version", it is not a "version" (I think - it is just a legacy interface, but not an implementaion, see below).
Wrong way!
1. Both the new and the legacy versions of the PhysX may coexist with each other, and it is officially supported. More rightly say, "legacy edition", because the "legacy edition" also has versions. Both editions may coexist, but not versions of one edition.
2. Do not download the legacy PhysX from the direct link above!!! Because the lecacy edition is also being updated and there may exists also the "new legacy" version of it (at least the newer than pointed above version of "legacy" already exists).
In the nVidia home page go to "Download Drivers" -> search PhysX download link -> in the "PhysX System Software" download page search the item about legacy edition, there you will see a link to latest version of the "legacy" PhysX.
3. Install (or reinstall) both (better in order - first the legacy, and after the new). After installation of both you will see both "editions" in the Windows Control Panel installed software list.
I did not know there was a "legacy" driver available from NVIDIA. Very helpful information, even if it's just for very rare scenarios.
I installed it, re-installed the demo ... and now the game runs perfectly fine (currently Win7 32bit).
Now I can buy & add this game to my games-library, eventually.
