Anyone know good tips for trading? Everything is random it seems and trying to pin down what I can effectively trade for doesnt seem to work, especially after updates.

For example idk what to give to the 3day trader for his backpack upgrade.

You should only trade things away, that you can either get easy or you don't need.
Easy processed goods are especially useful when you have the efficiency upgrade(less mats for a thing to craft). I resorted to trade now pistol ammo as the price increased so much for me, that the other mats didn't cut it anymore(with only 5 slots to put tradevalue in).
Wood(especially the processed variants)+scrap(robot get them a lot for me) the cloth(and the fabric out of it). After that trade I trade back pistol ammo for the mentioned things to have that value(even when I 'lose' more tradevalue with each additional trade).

One thing I have to admit: I have no clue how the price for backpack is calculated(time passed or unlocked slots?). So I would say: Get every backpack when you can, as either when it's a per unlocked price, then you don't lose out(as long as you don't sell your liver!), but when it's a passed time, then the first trades are the best for that.
Don't know if other traders change prices(I don't count in the story reading trader price buff) or not. THat I have to test out. NOw I'm close to my newgame and therefore can test out the trader better for his backpack price! For the other trading opportunities it's more of a what I have and what they have than the price they actually ask for.

Theres still an annoying thing where you HAVE to trade the whole stack of goods, rather then adding it one at a time. I cant split them up.

I remember in early access, making 3rd tier food was the best idea. But I traded [11] tier 2 foods and 12 homemade wine for a backpack upgrade so far.

I'm not sure what you exactly mean. When you F on a stack of items(scrap x12) it will put x1 scrap into the trading slot(until full for the slot itself). The same can you do with F in reverse by clicking items in the trading slots to get back x1 item of the stack.

10 scrap for 1 potatoe - wow awesome
F 9 scrap for 1 potatoe - wow awesome
F 8 scrap for 1 potatoe - wow awesome
F 7 scrap for 1 potatoe - good
F 6 scrap for 1 potatoe - good
F 5 scrap for 1 potatoe - okay
F 4 scrap for 1 potatoe - okay
F 3 scrap for 1 potatoe - a bit more
(That is just an example not real trading!)
You can drag a stack of items to and from to move the whole thing.
I think you can Control+LMB a stack to fast add/remove. (for those that didn't know those fast shortcut infos)
A note from me: lvl 3 kitchen is quite hard to get(very special items) so I can understand that the best meal out of it is quite valuable.

I'll give that a try.

Yeah, they made level 3 benches considerably harder from early access. Which is ok with me. It was very profitable.

Yeah lvl 3 kitchen takes a lot. Biggest problem for me is to make those O-items as they are locked behind lvl 5 workbench and use an item I never enocuntered before(didn't know to beat tentacle-chan for that). Now that I know how to get those I maybe can try it in my next game. Maybe that would make all those left-over little foodies useful.
