So does this game has a reasonably long timer so that you can really sink your teeth into it? or does the mom dies in an obscenely short period of time
The game has a total length of 60 days depending on the decisions you make later.
On the lowest difficulty level, one hour ingame takes about 1 minute 10 seconds. As the day runs from 8am to midnight / 1am - you can say 1 day ingame is about 20 minutes. More or less, I just stopped an hour ingame and extrapolated.
But it sounds like quite a short game play per playthrough ... so might not be my cup of tea but that is just me I suppose. btw does opening the inventory and menu and activities such as reading books/ scrolls/ letters (if there are such in game) stop the game time?
The playthrough isn't overly long, but it's not that short either. The story itself is gripping and as you can't do everything in one day, you have to visit some areas several times in a row. Time management is part of the game, especially when crafting things or travelling long distances. But there were also days later on that I practically skipped. Get up, eat, drink, maybe take care of some planted things and then go straight back to bed. I could only do some things (achievements) in the second playthrough because I didn't have the items in the first one. Short spoiler: After the end of the game, you can take many things with you into the next playthrough, such as weapons and some materials.
