The carnival - the maze is annoying.
The RV camp - a horde seems to keen to camp out there.
Forest Road - the Teddy bear zombies seem to have become quite damage spongey.
Liking most of the changes so far in what I am seeing.
Hey mate, thanks for the reply. Here's some suggestions:
The carnival - the maze is annoying.
- Indeed it is. The path I took was to hug the left end of the maze then move up to the edge and then head right to the other edge, and finally down to the exit, like one full clockwise circle on the outer edges of the maze. Worked for me, may or may not work for you.
- You'll know you're on the right path when you enter some employee office (as you're heading down to the exit) that has the medicine (for the quest). Trick is, if there's a wall, wait for the maze to reset and the walls to drop so you can move in the desired direction.
The RV camp - a horde seems to keen to camp out there.
- I had an 'interesting' experience with the horde at the RV camp. Not to mention its the only reliable consistent source for metal (trade with the NPCs). You should check my Steam review for the game, curious if you had the same 'immersion-killing' experience :))
Forest Road - the Teddy bear zombies seem to have become quite damage spongey.
- I hate those things. I use bear traps and then smack them to death. If there are more than 1 at the same time charging towards you, GGWP... Also, enemies start toughening up later so need to tech up dmg asap
I made my way though the maze by finding a vent pipe that popped up and allowed me access to the meds.
I have just now unlocked the pastor's room in the RV camp. Saw that twist coming a mile off.
I've been upgrading the crowbar. I've got an axe, but even repairing it takes ingots which are not light on the materials. The traps work well, and do allow you time to charge up the attacks, but it's still a case of dodging back and forth from melee range.
Mary quest line - needs water, food, meds, then gives the photo and disappears without closure.
RV Camp Dianna/Horde - Yeah. I found that amusing to see.
For a 1.0 release, I've certainly seen worse. Striking a balance between hand holding and kicking you out of the nest isn't the easiest to manage.
I just finished the canning factory and my next locations are the Police station and Beach, but after finishing both locations I got no more clues. The only quest leads I got are/stuck on atm are:
1. Finish fixing the carnival rides - merry go round done, rocket fixed, but no event happened with the child circus npc. Still haven't beaten his arcade high score either, maybe that's holding the quest back?
2. Cook for police station - Did it twice, there's a bribe on the second try onwards but I have no idea what to give the Gang Leader. Don't know if its value-based or a unique item to trigger the next event.
3. Look for Axe dude's photos - Got the farm, RV camp, beach. I dont know where the other pictures are, and there are no quest indicators or information online on where to find the other photos.
4. Give someone antiviral serum - Someone may be curious about this. No clue who to give it to.
5. Use pet carrier - Get the kitten from italian restaurant, held off on this because I can't find milk anywhere late game. Does this quest trigger anything or is this a fluff quest?
6. Does the tree house on the back of the farm have any use?
How did you discover the secret lab? Also, how do you unlock the prison location?
- Secret lab unlocked itself when you hit the point of no return. You get 2 choices, and I chose one of them which gives you a 5-day timer to win the game or GG
- No idea about the prison, I too don't have it unlocked. It says I have 'direction info' but not 'distance info', frustrated. If you find this out, let me know! :D

- Nah, these don't do anything. I fixed the ride which just lets Cody ride it. Beating high score didn't do anything for me
2. Cook for police station - Did it twice, there's a bribe on the second try onwards but I have no idea what to give the Gang Leader. Don't know if its value-based or a unique item to trigger the next event.
- Yeah, I saw that but after doing it 3-4 times with no results I gave up. Felt like I was wasting my time and giving free resources away. The last conversation I got from Bard was 'I'll tell you when you need to know".
- Would appreciate if the game/devs gave some sort of indication/hint that we're on the right track or if we're getting conned...
3. Look for Axe dude's photos - Got the farm, RV camp, beach. I dont know where the other pictures are, and there are no quest indicators or information online on where to find the other photos.
- Same, I found these and maybe 1 - 2 more but no more than that. No clues, no hints, nothing...
4. Give someone antiviral serum - Someone may be curious about this. No clue who to give it to.
- There's a questline in the research lab late game. However, I'm stuck on how to proceed from here. If you find this out, let me know :)
5. Use pet carrier - Get the kitten from italian restaurant, held off on this because I can't find milk anywhere late game. Does this quest trigger anything or is this a fluff quest?
- Didn't do this, too busy 'metal hunting' :))
6. Does the tree house on the back of the farm have any use?
- Not to my knowledge
I made my way though the maze by finding a vent pipe that popped up and allowed me access to the meds.
- Well done :D
I have just now unlocked the pastor's room in the RV camp. Saw that twist coming a mile off.
- Indeed. But this questline didn't trigger for me until the endgame. Was there a way you made it trigger earlier?
I've been upgrading the crowbar. I've got an axe, but even repairing it takes ingots which are not light on the materials. The traps work well, and do allow you time to charge up the attacks, but it's still a case of dodging back and forth from melee range.
- The crowbar is a solid early-mid game weapon because its easy to upgrade and repair. But towards the mid-end game, you need the sword (from the mine quest). I agree that the axe is nice but the game makes it too difficult to repair/upgrade these.
- The sword makes the axe and metal pipe redundant which makes one ask why these were implemented if the resources were too difficult to obtain to repair/upgrade it.
- Seems like there were a lot of effort put into upgrading/crafting certain items but with the current rarity/lack of key materials, these seem like wasted mechanics.
Mary quest line - needs water, food, meds, then gives the photo and disappears without closure.
- Huh, same thing happened to me. Whelp :3
RV Camp Dianna/Horde - Yeah. I found that amusing to see.
- xD
For a 1.0 release, I've certainly seen worse. Striking a balance between hand holding and kicking you out of the nest isn't the easiest to manage.
- Don't disagree with you (look at Cyberpunk 2077's initial release LOL). But regardless, I still wanted to voice my criticisms because I do feel that there was a major disconnect between the last early access we played vs the 1.0 release and a lot of new features were untested which causes player frustration.
- Have seen on certain discussion boards that some of my concerns are being experienced by other players, but do want to get your thoughts once you reach the endgame.
- Do want the game to get better, and would even change my recommendation to a positive if the overall experience was improved.
That being said, if you are successful in finishing the endgame let me know how you did it! Currently stuck at the endgame and no idea how to finish it/proceed.
My sequence of events for the RV camp was (I believe)
Rescue Dianna at the Supermarket
Visit the camp > speak to Dianna > Chocolate for Lyla Quest > Speak to Lyla > cans for questions > more wine for her dad >
I opened and planted the potato field, and fixed the gate
Revisted the supermarket - got the book > book for Dianna > bear for Lyla (Where does Cody's bear go in the house?)
Visted RV camp a 3rd time > Dianna injured, speak to Lyla, first aid kit to Lyla.
4th visit > Noah walking round with a "..." speak bubble > game him food > invite to cabin.
5th visit > morning > sneak in while Jeremy is at the prayer meeting.
Just finished the mine and got the sword. Wasted resources repairing the axe the day of the 2nd mine visit, so you can imagine my annoyance at getting the sword shortly afterwards.
Hit another wall. I've got the Carnival, Highway, Mine, RV camp, Farm, National Park, City, and Supermarket unlocked. Seem unable to discover anywhere else.
I'm playing on Tranquil, and following a "Will" only path of decline. I focused my planting on potatoes for wine/alcohol, and herbs, so I've been cancelling my symptoms when I get them if they're not something that I can negate or benefit from. about 19 days left before the evacuation.
Day 34/35 was an interesting twist. A bit clunky in the dialogue, but a nice little twist.
I'm a Long Dark player. Every new update comes with a series of bugs, so I'm rather chill with bugs. The steam group is a bit toxic, but I find the Reddit community to be a bit more supportive.
I got "it's hard to find a clue" in every place.
He'll come back the next day after you rest when heading to bed despite not finding him.
Hey mate, thanks for the reply and useful info. Several questions I had:
1) Is there a way to unlock the secret lab earlier in the game before the 5-day timer? I wasn't able to get to the point of Lilith's death and ran out of time which just causes a game-over screen..
2) How do you find the prison? Must you complete the police station quest to get the prison unlocked? If so, how many times do we have to do the police station quest to complete it? Was sick of Bard constantly saying "Get Out" so gave up after 3 - 4 tries..
I finally figured it out, you just got to keep doing the stupid cooking quest a few times. Each time you serve him his tomato soup, make sure to talk to him again. An option to give him items will appear. I just have him 1 bandage each time. Once you do this about 3 - 4 it will trigger the next stage of the quest and unlock the prison.
Cheers!
