Which might sound like "duh" but as I'm sure you've noticed, hard can actually be easier for these dance duals. Well, not this one. Easy was way easier for me.

You can get 9000 points on that. 6900 point is too low

Be consistent with combo chain and try to grab 8 steps before each prompt

Most of the inputs don't change (except Dance Fever I think), so you can memorize them along with the song.

Some songs have inputs that are on the beat, other songs have inputs that are slightly off the beat. If you were just doing disco for another song, your beat/timing sense may be correct for the previous song, but not the current song.

So practice the same song over and over. Make sure you maintain the combo and get a sense for the beat. Maybe even try a few practice rounds without activating Dance Fever, so you can go through the entire song and beats.

In dance battles, your opponent usually does a crazy number of steps, like if you do 150, they'll do 750+. But the opponent doesn't maintain their chain well.

Try playing on at least the middle difficulty. If you play on easiest, the opponent has fewer inputs to mess up on, so their super-high step input ends up deciding the match.

You can do inputs with D-pad for precise control. Thumbstick inputs *could* be faster but are difficult to manage.

A messed up input can be a REAL issue, that's why thumbstick can be very tough to use. If you're next to a wall and walk into it (usually from doing one too many inputs), the avatar will freeze up for a moment and won't be able to move. This freeze can mean you don't make it on time to the next input, and if you don't get the input you'll lose your chain.

Finally, the opponent doesn't always get the same score. I think if you get 6900 that's just barely enough to win if the opponent also gets unlucky. I don't know if the opponent is more likely to get unlucky if you have a lot of low runs, but it does happen. I think for me, Dancing Queen ended up doing like 8000 and 7500 a lot, and only dipped to 6800 once, but that happened to be a time I got around 6900 so barely won.

Oh man.

Yes, I can imagine this would be hell trying to use a thumbstick. I don't understand why people try to use them for literally everything. There's a D-pad for a reason! Anything with 2, 4 or 8-directional input is way easier using it.

Another tip is that the game tends to (but not always) repeat the same input for faster inputs. IIRC, they're eighth notes, if you know any music theory. If not, just note that the input will be faster than usual.

Thumbstick, because I think the game only accepts D-pad inputs under certain conditions. That is, if I want to do a quick circular motion on D-pad I'll get maybe a down and a left or something out of it, but a quick circular motion on thumbstick will get down, left, up, right.

Might be I have to do something different on D-pad to get the input to accept properly but I haven't figured it out.

BTW I ended up using D-pad for all my disco battles. I tried thumbstick / D-pad for one disco battle that you don't actually have to win, then ended up deciding to accept the loss instead of trying to train.

i did notice that sometimes my button pushes do not register in the game for some reason. It does not matter if i use the thumbstick or the dpad on my controller. Is there some kind of bug with controllers? I may try it on my keyboard to see if i can do it better on it.

Play on hard if your haveing trouble. Then, after losing a few times, go back to easy.

Also the AI tends to make mistakes on hard.
