No English Dub, But Why SEGA?
Hi, I know what you are thinking SEGA,,, Japanese audio is better for sort of game, English dub gonna be awful. But just give me a sec to explain why this isn't an excuse to at least try. For example Bandai and Squerenix did with these games that are Japanese too with decent English Dubs: Final Fantasy, Naruto Shippuden, Dragon ball Games and some even has more Dubs: French, German, Spanish, Brazilian, Russian and Japanese voices. SEGA I expected better from you! it's a shame really.

Edit: SEGA if money is an issue add English Dub as DLC i'm sure we can give you $4.99 extra for it.
Edit 2: SEGA I"ll chanced my mind I"ll pay $0.00 for Dub that should have been included in-game in first place. I have played multiples games this week all with English dialogues and I ask my self what's going on SEGA!?

Thank god, they did not put English voice acting on it.... always ruins a game, when there is a dub.

I think that dubs are never a good idea. You lose many cultural details with dubs. I'm no expert in japanese culture, but it seems to me that, for example, "name suffixes" are quite important there. Those small "-aniki", "-san", "-kun", "-chan" after names add a lot to character interactions and there is no easy way to dub those. Try to think how would they dub the pocket racer part of the game.

That was just an example, there are many other cultural details that gets lots in dubs, but not in subs. Subs can even add context to explain those details.

I'm just gonna add my grain of salt to the pile and say that I don't like dubbing in principle (imao a work of fiction should have a language that fits the setting) but even if I did english dubs of japanese games are invariably terrible, and Yakuza 1 was no exception.

Leave it in japanese; subtitles might not be the perfect answer, but they're the lesser evil. If you're that keen on hearing instead of reading then try learning the language.

I usually prefer dubs just because I really don't like the chance of missing something whilst I'm busy reading the subs, or missing the subs as I'm watching something cool, or maybe just having a brain fart and needing to read a line twice but not having the time/option to do so...Or those subbed games that don't actually sub everything, so you can't understand various lines in the game at all (lookin' at you, BB:Central Fiction)

But Yakuza is a Japanese game set in Japan...I can deal with subs here. I would go as far to say that having an English dub would be really weird actually.

Perhaps the only exception I would mention is the character Bacchus since he's white (American), but even then, I would have gone with the option of having a English voice actor speak in Japanese...His current voice is just weird coming out of a white homeless guy.

Naruto and Dragonball already had anime with English dubs. I imagine dubs in the game were done more for those who come from the English dub anime than for the sake of the minority audience of dub fans.

Final Fantasy I can't give a reason for. Maybe the fact that it's a far larger series with a far larger budget makes an English dub more pheasable. Perhaps some of the characters aren't supposed to neccassarily be Asian in the first place. Whatever reason, it doesn't matter, that's Square, not SEGA.

Just so you know, Atlus did the localization on Yakuza 0.

The English dub for the Persona series keeps all the honorifics intact, so I would expect the same treatment with a hypothetical Yakuza 0 dub.

Yakuza is basically a Yakuza film in game form. Have you ever watched a Yakuza film? Dubbing it in English would not only sound weird, with the various dialects, it would actually detract from the atmosphere that is meant to be conveyed. The original game on PS2 shows how awkward it can get. This is not the same as translating something in a fantasy setting.

We are talking about a series with zombies, ancestors that are proxies for their modern day counterparts, superhuman durability (except when the plot says so), anime power aura, & people casually swinging motorcycles around.

You get the inference, it isn't set the Empire of Zar'barath.

I remember watching anime Angel Beats, first episode i tought voice acting was ♥♥♥♥ on DUB, then i got used to it like its my everyday 3 egg and 4 sausages lunch and didn't mind it.

I'm guessing he's slow at reading thats why he prefer dub over subs, so he doesn't have to read.
