Guys i have a question please respond honestly
I made a thread a while back complaining that i had to read the subs for every conversation which i found it difficult. A friend of mine convinced it gets easier with time, but the question should i try. Is the story that good ? I mean i love games with a good story for example witcher 3 and other rpgs. Will this measure upto that. Based on your answers i am willing to try the game again this time with renwed focus on reading those subs.

even if the game is in japonese the text is simple and easy to read, you can even skip it if you want

It's funny, when I first heard about the JPN dub only I was also apprehensive because I thought it was a mostly fast moving constant action type of anime game and that my eyes would be all over the place trying to keep up.
Then when I started playing and discovered it's basically an RPG anyway it didn't actually bother me anymore, just felt like Planescape Torment or Baldur's Gate or whatever where you're reading dialogue normally anyway.

But it's not that bad. It's worth it.

Because dubs of japanese works usually lacks certain subtleties of the original work. When I watch anime or play Japanese games I expect the material to be japanese, not an american or british frankenstein monster created from japanese source material. You can thank the concept of localization for most of the flaws that comes with professionally translated materials, no matter the origin.

because in 99% of cases the people in charge of the translations are idiots that have no idea what they're doing and the voice actors are all horrible amateurs.

Look idiot i am probably more educated than you since i am doing a PhD. I just feel that while reading the subs i might miss some part of the cutscene and it breaks immersion.

Dyslexia has nothing to do with someones intelligence~

Essentially this. To add to that, my native language is not English. So there's little reason for me to want English dubs, when it means I lose more then I would gain from having the original voicetrack.

Haha, don't remind me. I'm glad that concept never got much tract in my own country or I'd have watched English movies and TV series in Dutch (and subsequentially never learned English to any decent degree of proficiency)

Subs not Dubs.

I have been whating Anime for years now, and I am still having trouble keeping up some times. BUT I still whatch it in Japanis. Why? For me its about HOW something is said rather than whats being said. Japanies voice actors in Anime seem to be better at VA than english ones. Hoever, Video games are a bit of a differnt thing.

I don't own the game, so I can't say to the story. BUT how good it is, thats a subjective thing, and any question thats subjective is the wrong question. The better question is this. Are you willing to find out if YOU like the story? Are you willing to put in the effort?

People throw around words like ''subjective'' and ''opinion'' way too often without really understanding their meaning these days...

Whether something is a good story has little (but some) to do with subjectivity.
Liking a story or not: that's where subjectivity is mostly at. Even then, we are heavily affected by the objective quality of a story as well, so its not like liking/disliking is entirely subjective either.

A story being good or not is mostly down to how its made. Setting, characters, direction of scenes, script/dialogue/interactions and the quality of all that, and whether it works well together.

Does Yakuza 0 have a good story? Yes. It's characters have depth, and display emotions very well (the scene direction is extremely good). The story fits the setting. Overall quality of the plot is something I cant comment much on yet, since I'm only in chapter 2. That said: so far the story is solid.

Will you like it? Probably, as its a good story, but its not a given. (because subjectivity)
