English Voice over
Hi guys
Is there any chance that English voice over will be added in future?
Kind regards

Unlikely, it's a Japanese game, set in Japan, telling a story regarding Japanese characters and how they interact with specifically Japanese aspects of their culture (i.e. the Yakuza) and made by Japanese developers.

An english voice-over is highly unlikely. Sorry. :/

But the Japanese voice acting is great and the english subtitles are written by an excellent translation team, so I hope you will give the game a try anyway!

Just read out the subtitles out loud and that could be your English Voice Over :P

Only the first Yakuza game for the PS2 had English voice overs, and an expensive one to boot. Yakuza for the PS2 was nearly a net loss for Sega, which resulted in no more English dubs and delayed localizations. Yakuza Kiwami, the remake of the first game, might get a mod that adds the PS2 dub into it.

Yeah I get that but it's like reading a book the whole time. I did buy the game but really reading subtitles the whole time takes away the enjoyment of the game for me.

Gee thanks for that super advice. Why didn't I think of that? :)

I suppose that's the reason for the price of the game. Thanks for the comment.

Oh no, not... a book! *gasp*

Actually, it's more like watching an anime. Except you control most of the action and choices. Pretty badass, actually.

It's unrelated to the price of the game. I dont think I've ever seen a game cost less as a result of not including English voice overs.

Yakuza being a very Japanese game is the reason why there's no dub. Apparently the first game did have a dub and it was very poorly received.

Cuz dubs cost money fam. You be surprised why some games dont have dubs. It's either not worth it or the game series itself is too niche of a title to get english dubs.

Game was full price or near as dammit when it launched in the West on PS4 (iirc I paid £40 or thereabouts for it).

And yeah, while some of the cast did as good a job as was possible given the script & voice direction they were working with, taken as a whole the dub of the first game was an abomination:
As witness

I watch foreign films sometimes so it doesn't bother me too much. As annoying as it seems at first you get used to it after awhile. It helps playing the game on a smaller screen too so your eyes aren't having to look up and down so much.

Wow...German Voice Overs do sound bad in 90 % of all cases.....but this........wow. I´d rather go learn Japanese instead of listening to that :D
I can imagine some people not being able to read fast enough during cut-scenes. At least they can pause and read.
English dub would SUCK for this game imo. Keep it authentic man.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's appreciated. Yeah I can respect the argument of cost, authenticity, etc.
I suppose you are correct in saying it just takes time to get used to. At this stage it's just a bit of a hassle to read to dialog and try and observe everything that goes on onscreen.
Thanks and happy gaming

I mean it's only for cutscenes and that's it.
