Why is there no option to play the old (original) Secret of Mana version?

Well I think it would be awesome if we could get a patch/update to get the "2d" version maybe also for the game "Mana trails".

oh they do that I once read here in a pinned (it was a steam/valve game) Topic that steam/devs/vac/gamerdovs/publisher read the forum aswell; sometime a good idea pops up why not use it?

because its a remake, and It would be nice to have the original one(which I own on my SNES-but I want it also on steam) and the old one has a way diffrent(better) charme...

And because it's a remake that game don't need 2D graphics. You own the old, play the old.

I would have loved to see the old version as well, but I will have to play it on the new SNES system released a couple of years back. It comes with SoM.

The remake not only looks and feels unpolished. It also plays differently to the original. For example, when moving from one area to another the characters "teleport" to that area, instead of walking, like in the original. They completely removed the cannon shoot sequence: instead you now get a black screen and a text "loading" on it when using the cannon. They added voice acting and new "cut scenes", which not only feel like unnecessary add-on's, but they also are cheaply made - the voice acting is quite terrible! All of these little things add up and take away from the original feel and charm of the game.
