Depends on the exclusivity offer. I don't think they'll wait as long for FFVIIR2 and FFXVI, they need to keep the hype train moving. They've had a lot of duds and the PS5 isn't new anymore.
The metacritic reviews are moving up into the 8's, on the user side, from a 6 on release. Seems like an OK ARPG, but a mediocre entry to FF.
FF has been dead to me since 13.
I'll make a small exception for XIV, but each expansion started to follow a very specific pattern and it got repetitive really quick. I miss the early game, when you had jobs that upgraded and changed, skills were more interchangeable (motivation to level up other classes), wacky potions with effects in battle, crafting gear wasn't entirely outclassed by dungeon drops...
But near launch I felt that after watching all those dev comments and some gameplay felt more like a ARPG game but not a FF title I expected, and so reviews started popping in.
Of course I don't mind/can like some sections of longer scenes/dialogues at key points/big events, or as long start/end bookends, but in general I like to play games, not watch/listen to them. I get why some like that type of story telling in games, so no insult implied/intended, just not my style.
The game visually looks good, so I can understand any visceral wow factor and I probably would like the combat fine, plus I like the dog (haha) , but yeah. Maybe when it's on deep sale on PC one day.
If this was an ARPG, it would be ok, however this game is not an action RPG, it´s just hack and slash like Devil May Cry
To top off why I prefer FF15, I really like having to watch an awful CGI movie with awful voice acting just so I can understand a huge plot point of the game(which the main characters don't even really care about and is never even discussed).
It's why all FF15 lovers also enjoy Forspoken, the amazing open world game made by the same team that made FF15!
Who doesn't love a game that has planned content cut and all development stopped with the lead dev quitting the company because it's such a flop?
a nice bait but you´re absolutely ....lol
Who cares about characters? I play videogames for their gameplay. This is what games are for. Story and characters are totaly secondary.
Thats a huge stretch.
I'll tell you a secret. None of the points mentioned actually matter. They are at best bonuses. 2022 GOTY has all of those "flaws" and much more. BoTW has all of those flaws and more. People spend many hours in games like Minecraft. Or multiplayer games like Counter Strike or Dota. All those games have one thing in common. Great and highly addictive core gameplay loop. Its that thing that players are doing before devs even add things like quests and story.
That's all there is to it. If your core gameplay loop is good you can just seed the map with incentives to engage with it (any sort of incentive will do: quests, even if they are just fetch quests, unique treasure, etc). If its not no ammount of distractions and flavor boosts will help.
And btw some of your points are factually incorrect. There is no need to watch that "awful CGI movie", everything important from it is in the game in one form on another. On the other hand I've watched more than 20h of various lore videos about 2022 GOTY and I still dont undestand some of it.
First thing first. Game devs have nothing to do with the movie. Its done by a separate team, including direction and much of the story. The team either had a lot of creative freedom or there was a massive miscomunication but movie ended up contradicting the game at a lot of major points. Something you would notice if you actually paid any attention to both.
No one promised future DLC for free. And why would you care? We can clearly see you dont own it on Steam.
This game sold over 10 millions. Its 3rd most selling single player FF ever. And most selling of you only count games without sequels (Im pointing that out because sequels always boost original's sales through different compilations). About 2 of those millions come from Steam which makes it highest selling single player FF on Steam by a very big margin. Poor sales indeed.
The movie was literally written by Saori Itamuro, the guy who wrote the script for the game. The movie itself was made by a division of Square Enix. The anime was written by a producer on the game. These weren't random people unaffiliated with the game.
People who bought the season pass on consoles were promised all future DLCS, only the DLCs that were promised were cancelled then Ardyn was sold separately. Ardyn continues to be sold separately even on Steam.
The game also went through production hell for 10 years(this costs a lot of money, since you seem to not understand how these things work) and ended up getting heavily criticized for its incompetent story, combat system, magic system, and world building upon release It's why the DLCs were cancelled and Square lost money. It's why the lead dev was forced out of the company.
You'll also notice this forum is only really used by people complaining about the game's poor performance and absurd mechanics.
You seem to live in a fantasy world of your own.
My profile is also private, so you can't 'clearly see' anything.
None of this even matters though, as the game is old and development stopped long ago. It will go down in history as a seriously flawed waste of money that saw many careers ruined and a large notch on Square's Wall of Flops.
You were one talking about FF16 on the FF15 discussion board, not me ;]
I didnt say anything about anime. Its faithfull to the game, unlike the movie. But anime is also free.
I've checked old SP description from 2016 and you're wrong. Maybe some 3rd party site gave wrong info, but xbox and psn shops never mentioned anything like that.
Game wasnt in active development for 10 years. Its you who dont know how those things work. Most of this time it was in pre-production phase. Art concepts, some drafts and semi-playable mockups using FF13 engine created by a small team. Final game was in full scale development for 3 years.
"It's why the DLCs were cancelled and Square lost money."
Yep,. more made up "facts". None of the originally planned content was canceled. Ardyn DLC was not planned. Its actually because the game got good sales SQEX considered expanding it beyond original plan.
"My profile is also private, so you can't 'clearly see' anything."
You dont understand how Steam works (which is starting to become a running theme here). It doesnt matter. The fact that you dont own FF15 on Steam is shown in your every post here.
