What is the point / idea of the Royal Arms?

I'm having a hard time understanding what these weapons are good for. I mean they were advertised to me as something really powerful and that is why they deplete heath when used. The things is I find these weapons really underwhelming; they don't match an enemy's weakness so they do less damage than my normal weapons and my friends told me "Oh just equip 3 of them for the stat boost and use whatever normal weapon you want". Really, the Royal Arms are just stat sticks and a cooldown of sorts (Arminger)? Or is it just that I'm only in chapter 5 or 6?

I was looking forward to finding a good balance between using normal weapons and the Royal Arms, but right now I don't see the point in that. The only time I found the Royal Arms worth using was when I was trying to get the Sturdy Helix Horn :D

The more Royal Arms you get, the more wacko the Arminger ability gets. Once you get to chapter 9 (which is already quite late in the game), you'll see what they are capable of

Passive bonuses is what i use them for equip 3 and use your preffered weapon in the other slot the bow and throwing star are nice for flying beastys until you farm enough ap for unlimited air step

Royal Arms ignore physical resistances, so they are really effective against enemies like mechs and iron giants. A couple enemies are ONLY weak to Royal Arms. They do boost stats, but a few are really decent weapons like the Trident which has the highest attack power of any spear in the game.

Stat boosts and special moves, there is a few other uses but those are the main two. The Ami drive is basically essential for late game special bosses (like 2 of them at least) but besides that you could ignore them

Scepter of the Pious has a godlike stab flurry. It scales with magic, which you can stack way higher than strength.

So pretty much what my friends said :/ That is a bit sad tbh.. would have been nice to actually use the Royal Arms more.
