Vesper Gar

How the heck do you catch this abomination?!
I'm aware that the location is the top left fishing spot in Vesperpool and (apparently) it shows up early mornings as a big yellow dot on the minimap.
I've come up to the spot 3 times, at 5 AM, waited all the way to around 9 AM with no luck. I did "Quit Fishing" and "Start Fishing" (restarting) several times in hopes to perhaps 'respawn' a Vesper Gar but nope.

This is getting frustrating. Is there anything else I should know about catching this monster? I remember that it rained twice in those mornings - does that have any effect? Also, I'm using all the highest / strongest fishing gear with the bait for a Vesper, of course.

* I've already finished the game, I'm in the post-game (CH14 onwards), this is the only quest I have left, and the LV99 quest "O Partner (something something)".

If you rest at the campsite near the small store hut, you'll get a tour mission for catching a Vesper Gar. You can repeat the tour infinitely, and for me the gar never appeared as a yellow dot.

You don't have to camp to trigger the quest catch it. You only need a very durable fishing line for the fish (It's heavy af!) & the Marlbodoom lure. I found 3 of them in the fishing spot located near the parking spot while it was raining & it was like 10-11 am at the time. But I only got Dragon's Beard at the time & even so it was not enough for this monstrous fish lol.

It's a Royal Gar, if memory serves right. Vesper Gar is quite common on the south side of the pool.

Hmm, don't recall having any problems with the Vesper Gar.
Just fish ner the dude,it's a long fish that spawns randomly I believe. Didn't have an icon for me,was fishing lvl 7 at the time.
Even bait was just that dlc Leviathan bait.

Vesper gar? I think that's also common for me. Is the fish you want include in a quest? There's two big fishing quest in Vesperpool which is Liege of the Lake and Angler's Nightmare. ( well, I didn't finish Angler's nightmare but i did that Liege of the Lake ) Only tips I can give is, if the fish you are going is a very rare type, it will never show up as dot in your minimap hud during fishing. Repeatly casting lure all over the fishing lake without quiting current fishing is your only solution. ( catch everything first is absolutely helpful. I've spend 20 minutes casting lure all over the lake just to find the key fish for Liege of the Lake. )

It's part of a side quest, think it was called "Navyth's Challenge" or something. The objective is only to catch a Vesper Gar; the quest itself doesn't give any information about how or when to catch it. The information I know was provided on forums by other players that I googled.

Anyway, I have since uninstalled the game; hence I finished it. I'll try the suggested options some other time perhaps, thanks.

I can hook the Vesper Gar but I've been unable to reel it in, even using the best gear and line I have available (Dragon's Beard with no wear). Do I just need to level up my fishing more? Right now I'm at fishing level 7 and this fish and some of the fish in the Accordo ocean just aren't even close to catchable, even with Dragon's Beard.

You just need to know how to fish. I've done all the big fish quests at lvl7, without even the best gear.
Tap R2,not hold,and only reel when there is no tension.

You can reel continuosly without tension when you are reeling it in the same direction where the fish is going. But if you want to be safe, you can just tap r2 little by little.

Well then,dunno what else to say. Honestly, a Super Baleen was enough for all fish for me,1 try 1 string, although I use dragon beard now since it sounds cool....lol

Last things to up your fishing game is probably get the reel or what's it called from the Arena in chap 9 onwards, and play at 30fps cap.
Things like physics, Armiger Unleashed combos,car responsiveness all are wonky beyond 30,so the fish pole might be too.

Once you're done with the gar,pee before the next quest,in Galadin Quay.
Wasn't a hard fish for me,but man was it looooong. Patience is key,don't be hasty to reel, keep an eye on direction. Just like real fishing hahahah
