Do i need to watch Kingsglave to understand the Lore?
Hey guys,

I watched the anime series last year when it came out for Console, I'm 30+ hours into the game and loving it! I'm just really confused about the game narrative. Do I need to watch anything or play any other games before hand?

All I know is that the Empire and Lucian are at war. I'm not asking for spoilers or explanations.

I am asking if watching the film (name in the title) will help understand the games story.

Thanks.

Too late for much of the narrative framing, I guess, but... Yes. Because Hajime Tabata still has absolutely no idea how to present a story, even when someone else has written it for him.

Want to know why Luna was randomly walking around on her own at the beginning of the game? Who the guy at the beginning of Comrades is? What the ring actually does, and why it's such a big deal? Why everyone randomly accepts folklore and mysticism in a technological/scientific society? What actually want down with Regis? What it was like during the Imperial raid, and how much damage was done to the Crown City?

Stop playing - go watch the film. Trust me.

The tutorial has the lore, and I found it fairly easy to follow without any material outside the game.

It will help yes. But you really dont have to watch it. But nevertheless, the movie is really great and it will get you some more information. also takes part before your journey starts.

The story concept is pretty easy to understand like any other FF story. Kingsglaive movie gives insight in what happened in Insomia before noctis left Insomnia and what happened during noctis traveling to hammerhead.

The game has some pre-rendered cutscenes from the movie, which you will see if you ever decide to watch the movie.

In hindsight, I'm glad to have seen the movie in front of the game.

you could just read the lore in the tutorial, it gives you a good rundown, the movie is more to understand a good portion of the cinematic cutscenes

They seem to have patched in a whole lot of the movie into the game, so you get cutscenes showing stuff from the movie that weren't there when the game first released. When I got it on PS4 when it first came out the game didn't cover anything that happened in the movie so it was a little disorienting. Now they have taken some of the movie and turned it into cutscenes.

I say you should still watch it because it's a pretty decent movie, but if you don't want to then I don't think it's necessary anymore.

Thanks for the replies guys, about 60 hours in I think and on chapter 10 maybe, I've been reading the books scattered around, and listening to what towns people have got to say, i'm slowly getting the jist of the story. Really great!

I did go into the tutorial lore, but there was like a few pictures - 6 if i recall correctly - that didn't provide infomation. Like the tutorial did mention gods/ deities but didn't flesh it out, whilst the gameplay did a little.

I see that kingsglave cut scene has made it into the game, once I complete the game I might watch it just to pass the time.

Thanks for the comments guy.

if you dont watch the movie, AT LEAST read the wiki. There are numerous references to it throughout the story, it was nice to understand their motivations.
