Fishing tips: How to maximize your fishing technique
Aside from the usual stuff like following the on screen prompts, I want to mention a few things that people may not realize and something being spread as true which is actually false.

Vibration: No, you do NOT always stop reeling when the controller is vibrating. In fact if you only reeled in when the controller is not vibrating, it would take you forever to reel in a huge fish. The only time you should stop reeling during vibration is when the tension meter happens to appear which leads me to my next topic:

Understanding tension: If the tension meter is on screen, depending on its length, you CAN still reel or it may be best to stop, regardless of vibration as well.

If it's a short meter, and as long as you are pushing the stick in the direction of the fish, then you can get away with TAPPING the reel button in short increments. In fact depending on the size of the fish vs. which gear you are using, you can even reel while the tension meter is on screen in its small state and it won't actually even grow into the red zone damaging your line. You will have to play this by ear and determine if it's safe for you per fight.

Otherwise in general, you can reel to your heart's content if the tension meter is not on screen, regardless of controller vibration.

In fact I would even recommend turning vibration off since it does not serve as any true indicator as to wheteher you should be reeling or not and just serves as an additional distraction.

The only thing that determines whether you should truly be reeling is the state that tension meter, and how your gear vs. the size of the fish is affecting it during that particular fight.

TLDR:
Vibration is useless, shut it off.
Reel in freely when turning the stick in the proper direction and the tension meter doesn't display.
Reel in cautiously when the tension meter is small. Check to see if you can reel in fully while it's small depending on your gear vs. fish size.

I've caught almost all the fish on the console (which has worse input lag than the PC version) without vibration. I never have vibration on.

I say almost because as much as I love the fishing in this game, I just didn't have the patience for the last ones to complete the entire list. Especially getting all those stupid Carp out of that one lake.

Odd because I never caught one carp yet in the game and have completed all the quests so far through chapter 10 I believe I am on. Catfish yes but no carp.

I generally don't reel at all when fish are flopping around and splashing in the water. The amount of hp they lose is very small compared to when they're "calm" and you reel in. When they're fighting you like that and you're reeling I've had them change direction and wasn't able to stop reeling in time to prevent durability loss on the string. For smaller fish you can probably reel like you just don't care and get away with it most of the time but for larger fish where durability is more critical I personally wouldn't. Didn't take me that long to catch anything in particular except for the monster of the deep one you get in galdin quay

I think the fishing is easy. I caught the big one and still had over 50% my line durability left.

carps are almost exclusively found in one lake, forgot the name though, except for one that is in vesperpool. They are actually quite easy to catch, though they have a lot of stamina, they arent very strong, and do almost no damage to the line. The only tedious thing is, they only respond to one bait, and even then not immediatelly, you need a few tries.

The new mummy bass from the royal edition on the other hand, is a frickin monster, incredible stamina, and does huge damage to the line at the smallest mistake... makes the pink jade gar and aparaima look easy...

I just meant the self-challenge of catching every fish in the game (Archive list). There's no quest or reward for it.

And each one was a certain time period in the day, so if you didn't catch it then, you had to wait until the next day, and so on. Half the time one of the other fish would bite instead, wasting the time period away to reel it in. It wasn't difficult per se, it was just time consuming and boring as **** and after a couple game days I went "pfffft" and haven't gone back. :D

Hm, they might have changed that. Ive wondered why they were named after the different times of day, cause i could catch every single one of them at every time of day. If that was the case i can understand why you didnt want to "catch em all" :)

there are times when i have reeled in a fish and got no wear on my line. go int he the rection, keep aneye on the fish, try to predict when its gonna turn. don;t hold the reel button down. when tention comes up just let go then go again it goes away faster and u can reel it in more during the inbetween
