Royal upgrade worth it?
As the title says is it worth it to get the royal upgrade?

I bought FFXV at launch on the PS4 with the season pass, I made it to the bit on the train after you have been to the other city when the story line i was most intrestined in was abruptly ended (don't want to say to much for those who don't know what happens). This removed my reason for playing and i haven't touched it since.

I've had to format my PS4 since the last time I played and recently I've been thinking of trying it out again. What does the Royal edition add and is it worth buying the upgrade when story is my main concern?

Royal Edition maybe not worth as upgrade:

It includes:

Features the Royal Vessel: add's more fishing sae quests, the Bismark quests and a misterious island that you will never land on couse game will stay unfinished forever.
First person camera.
Archive, so you can read cosmogony stories and other text items..
Unlocks the Armiger Unleashed with Founder King’s Sigil.
Insomnia City Ruins, with Omega Optional SuperBoss.
Regalya Type-D and racing minigames.

Unless you're going finish 100% game and 100% love it, I don't see this worth it...

Edit: As a special PC version, you can play AVATARA world, wich add's Comrade's costumization to the main game, hide-seek special points with gifts, and share photographs arround the world.

So it doesn't add anything to the main story line then? I mostly play games for story and I know that a lot in the story was unfinished a launch. I didn't know if the Royal Edition added anything to the main story.

If you already have the main game for ps4 then what you'd want is the Royal Pack, not Royal Edition. Royal Edition is base game + new Insomnia stuff + first 4 DLC. Edit - although these days, when it goes on sale, Royal Edition tends to be cheaper vs. buying all of that separate

The Insomnia changes are fairly significant but outside of what might be called cameos of certain characters it doesn't add tons to the story per se. The Founder King battles that were added are fun, some additional Cor sidequests/involvement, a vehicle, a greatly enlarged Insomnia Ruins area etc.

If you want more visual/gameplay chr background and story that would largely be in Prompto, Ignis, and Ardyn DLC, which are not integrated into main game.

Edit: Comrades DLC also has a couple quests and scenes that relate to the main story game but not sure it's worth playing it for hours and hours just to see it. You can just YouTube it.

Sorry, missed the part that you had the season pass already. lol. I just woke up.

At any rate, I've always considered the game "finished" story-wise, it's just that details and chr motivations that people want more of, never really gelled or materialized even with DLC. Episode Gladio is a complete throwaway. Ignis and Ardyn is the most relevant to main storyline.

You might be better off only buying Ardyn DLC and just playing that + Ignis after finishing the main game.

so the royal upgrade adds pretty much nothing to the main story then. i wasnt sure if the insomnia ruins would be important outside of the optional super boss
