I have no idea why Tabata scrapped Nomura's awesome story
Anyway, the problem with the version we got now is not that it is bad - on the contrary. It's pretty damn good imho. The problem is, that you have to play with our eyes and ears open wide and really THINK about the things you see and hear. A lot of the actual story is not 'told' in the traditional way, but provided by things you'd probably just miss.
I really hope that the upcoming DLCs will finally clear things up for everyone. Especially those mentioning the "bad" ending. Because the ending is all but bad for real.
I (and other fans with brain) have told people since forever that current FF15 is a rushed cash grab with less than 10hours main story, MMORPG level fetch quests as its side contents, and boring battles (some of the boss battles are winnable even with eyes closed). But the sheep just religiously defending this game. Saying that this game has so many content just because it has quite a lot of achievements to complete.
Also Versus was never really in full development, so having a story for a 3-Part game series flasht out seems unlikely. And as some people in the reddit link state, some bits seem a bit off.
Just be careful about saying this is it. We don't really now for sure.
I assume this story was scrapped because of the capabilities of developers, plus the system requirements.
The part of FFXV we did get is 85GB, and it completely feels like the start of a good game, and an ending slabbed together out of half finished set pieces.
That story also feels way to political, way to much lore and way to linear. The old FF games never hung onto the story that tight, they tended to focus more on the game play elements and how to throw those at the player. This is a forest, this is a fire cave, this is an ice cave, and other elements.
Like FF4, Cecil was the captain of the red wings of Baron, and he was a dark knight. It doesn't matter who founded Baron, or why. It doesn't matter how Cecil got the dark knight class, or how he became captain. Those details are irrelevant to the main story, which typically revolves around the weird dungeons you walk through.
