I don't remember where in the story Menace Beneath Lucis is, but if you're far enough in the hunts to have the Zu hunt (the giant bird that you fight in the volcano), break its beak during the fight to get some Zu Beaks, which will upgrade your spells to their limit breaking forms, giving a max damage of 99,999 per cast, rather than the normal 9,999.
IIRC, it takes 62 Zu beaks and 1 element, of any element, to craft a limit breaking spell with 999 power and 99 casts; takes forever to farm (you can use the nearby campgrounds while leaving your car at town to quicktravel between the fight and the tipster, speeding things up considerably), but makes pretty much any boss fight, or hunt, a cakewalk once you've got all 3 spells with that many casts.
Just did what he said, and My Fire/Ice/Thunder spell hit for 99,999. Fu8kin RIP the AI.
For the expericast spells, IIRC they give 100,000 exp per cast at expericast lvl 96 (no point in lvling past 96). Equip moogle charms for bonus exp, eat an exp boosting meal at camp (triple decker for 50% boost), expericast 5 times, then stay at the hotel in Altissia for 3x exp, and you can get more than 2,000,000 exp in one go. 1 element and 8 rare coins will give you 5 casts at expericast lvl 96 (more if you have the bonus spell ascensions), this is the most efficient way to craft them.
Sadly, I didn't learn that trick with expericast until I had already maxed my lvls at lvl 120 the hard way.
1) Stock up on ingredients to cook useful dinners at the campsites, I went for Lasagna di Forno every time, which trivialises the final floors.
2) Invest AP in the Recovery and Stat Ascension trees for HP and healing bonuses. Also if you can get the 999AP one on Teamwork for linkstrike limit break damage that will really help you take down enemies fast.
3) If you can, equip The Grand Chamberlain accesory on Ignis to automatically use an elixir on Noctis (the item use accesories bypass the item restriction). Stocking some healcasts like as already been explained should also work. Also equip Ribbons or Safety Bits on everyone.
4) Craft limit break magic using Zu Beaks. A couple of Freeze spells worked great on the final boss.
5) Death spell on Ring of the Lucii works great on Goblins and enemies on the first floors.
Also, you don't need to go overboard on all these at all, just play to your strengths. Some people like to use spells on most floors, I only used a couple. Some people prefer to boost their attack with food (eg. Golden Tail Soup), I preferred to boost my defense with food, minimising my need for healcasts.
Oh, and in case this had passed you by: by resting at the campsites an autosave is created, so if you Game Over you can continue from the last campsite, rather than the beginning of the dungeon.
Vexxos is the best limit break item but if you hate playing pinball for hours and hours and don't enjoy doing the Timed Hunts 10000 times (and don't want to use CheatEngine to cheat them in), you'll never have a lot of those.
