I would disagree it's unfinished - but it's not as detailed as many would've liked, the open world distracts from the "urgency" (common issue w/open world however) and the story is piecemeal (main story, dlc's, movie, anime, etc). they use "wow" moments and big emotional moments to try to wrest reaction from players, but for some this doesn't work since little is done to justify those "big" moments from an immersion/emotional or logical point of view if you really start thinking about it.
The beats are there, and honestly for me it was also enough. It's not like it's an original plot to begin with and I've never been one that's into tons of "lore" in games. But I get why so many couldn't connect with it. Also, the more DLC's came out, the more they forgot/ignored things that were said/mentioned in the main game, causing more inconsistencies.
Me personally including a lot of others, I do not like Chapter 12 I think it was and it goes into a massive time skip. I really don't like the timeskip.
And being in a setting where war is taking place. I wish the story could have felt more like an actual war.
None of the cutscenes shown from the FF XV reveal in 2013 until late 2015 are actually in the game. None of the cutscenes from these trailers from 2013 to 2015 are in the game... Characters like Verstael and Iedolas get ONE! scene each.
For a total newcommer i guess you wouldn't notice it, but looking back at the trailer they were 100% false and not representative of the final game. Dawn Trailer teased so much father/son bond that was nowhere to be found in the game.
On one hand I really enjoyed what I got but on the other hand, I felt a lot of important content was cut from the game.
- No father / son relationship development.
- No explorable Insomnia before the invasion.
- Guest characters were underused (Cor, Iris, Aranea).
- Plot to gather Royal arms was underused. (I initially thought the plan was to gather strength to reclaim the city but turns out the ring was all that was needed).
- Luna could have used more screen time.
- Undevelopded Evil Empire (Niflheim). Really, what about Iedolas (empereor) and Verstael (scientist behind much of the recent success in the empire's technology department).
- No explorable Gralea nor Cartanica (even something half the size of Altissia would have been nice).
- No explorable world post time-skip.
- I'm not even going to complain about dlc...But some scenes could have been added to main game after the latter was released.
Always, "we had no choice". Those were our magic words - we repeated them again and again to ourselves, but you know what? The magic never really worked. All we're left with is regret. I don't want this anymore. I don't want friends to die, or fade away. I don't want to fight battles in which I need to lose in order to win. I understand what you are saying Nooj. Give me your resolve. Believe in Yuna."
I felt like the ending where (most)everyone dies really goes against the spirit of Final Fantasy. The gameplay was great imo but the story was too depressing to end with.
Optimization is hot ♥♥♥♥.
trope first you are the chosen one.
trope 2 crystal save the world
trope 3 your are a kings son
trope 4 your home city is destroyed by evil empire
trope 5 the evil empire attacks
trope 6 the chancelor of the evil empire is your nemesis, hello kefka is it you
trope 7 you have to collect to 6 magic mcguffins to become powerful enough to save the world.
trope 8 there is a evil twist halve into the game.
They should try to make some story grounded in reality and not reuse the standart final fantasy story from 1990 for the 16th time.
It is just garbage story.
And then you have the worst action combat ever. In times when you have spot on combat like in dark souls, sekiro, devil maycry, bayonetta or even games with atrocious combat like the witcher this is the worst combat i suffered through. Like the developers dont know what a good combat looks like.
Most of the time you are not fighting your enemies but the camera.
The most insufferable emo boy group ever. the worst depressive main character cast in a game. Who would want to play body guard for such a spoiled child or even become friends with him. I can not relate in any way to those characters. Prompto adhs kid off the meds, Ignis the male maid for the king's son. The only character that is a little bit grounded and friendly is Gladoleus.
And then you have useless animations like stopping car, entering car, fuel the car, eat, show fotosession, even the animation that plays when you finish a hunt mission takes 5 seconds to play again and again. Then ignis telling me that i can not drive around at night again and again. Thank you mom. This is a game not a movie. Let me play the game and dont interrupt my gameplay every minute.
The overall experience is for me: What is this abomination. Very shocking when you enjoyed most of square enix games before.
Have fun.
