Also don't forget to play Gladio DLC when u finish the powerplant.
But i agree some stuff is very badly handled in terms of story telling
Technically speaking, Dawn of the Future's ending is not the canonical ending of FFXV. The trilogy of cancelled DLC's, which the book covers, tells an alternate version of the story where Ardyn makes a different choice. I won't spoil the Ardyn DLC, but there is a choice to be made. One choice leads to the events of FFXV. The other choice leads to the events in Dawn of the Future.
What you have starting with Ardyn's choice and the Dawn of the Future book is an alternate version of events that presents a "what-if" scenario... in much the same way that a choice in the Ignis DLC leads to an alternate version of events. The alternate endings of the Ignis DLC and Dawn of the Future are not replacements to the canonical ending of FFXV and there are interviews with Tabata that clarify this stance (specifically in regards to people preferring the more up-beat and happy ending presented in the Ignis DLC's alternate ending).
The book is "what if"
The ending for Dawn of the Future is the real deal.
Putting this in spoiler territory for people who haven't played through the Ardyn or Ignis DLC...
It's an alternate ending because the entire premise of Dawn of the Future is based on Ardyn choosing to defy his fate when given the choice by Bahamut. The game that we got that is FFXV is based on Ardyn accepting his fate and agreeing to spread darkness throughout Eos, since it would ultimately lead to not only his own death (which he wanted), but the end of the Lucis line (which he also wanted).
To say the ending of Dawn of Fate is the "real" ending is as silly as saying the alternate ending of the Ignis DLC where Ignis sides with Ardyn only to double-cross him later in Niflheim, looses his vision after destroying Ardyn with the Ring of the Lucii, and then being healed by the Crystal at Noct's behest is considered the "true" ending.
Just because Dawn of the Future (and the Ignis DLC alternate ending) showcase a happier ending doesn't mean it's the true ending. The director of the game did an interview a while back after Ignis DLC was launched where he was asked his feelings on people preferring the alternate ending to the canonical ending. To paraphrase what he said, he said that the DLC gave him and his team a chance to tell a what-if scenario and that while he was happy that people preferred the happier tone of the alternate ending, that ending in no way, shape, or form represented the true ending.
The same applies to Dawn of the Future. Like or not... love it or hate it... Noctis dies to destroy Ardyn in the Crystal Realm and put an end to the Starscourge. Everything else is a what-if that shows a possible timeline if certain key choices were made differently.
What happens in timeline B is meaningless to timeline A. Change my mind.
It's stupid.
That book features an alternative ending that was jammed in there for crybabies who can't stomach a bittersweet conclusion to a story (with one of the best ending scenes (final camping scene) in the history of FF games).
The canon ending is a good ending, makes total sense for the story and the character Noctis. It was his destiny and the story was all about that sacrifice. Although the destiny is written by selfish "gods".^^
There are rarely any limits to stupidity when people are involved....
