The general gist is the longer a fight takes or the more damage your party takes, the higher the chance you'll hear the music and get the Summon prompt for you to trigger. Which Summon appears is also largely random, although certain "conditions" may increase the odds of getting specific ones.
Most of the time you will see Ramuh (only one that can appear in dungeons last I knew) and if you do that FF14 crossover quest, Garuda becomes rather dominant outdoors. In post-game, no Summon will ever appear in the Menace quest dungeons.
Had somebody found an official descriptoin of this system ? Is there a cooldown after the summon
I just did the Titan trial mission and went to to some hunts. Got the summon prompt right away even the fight going well , just Prompto was down ( as ever) but Noctis and the others were all right and the there was just a regular enemy alive but the prompt showed up for me and i did it
Next moment i tried another battle , it was night so things got really chaotic with imperials daemons, the whole part down and Noctis almost dead.
I just kept runing in circles inside the fight area for a long time to see if the prompt would appear again , but nothing happened . I did a save mid batte and tried it 3 times and nothing.
Ironic as this battle was the one i think had the most conditions for the summon to appear. My ideas for why it didn't apperead would be :
- a long cooldown
- its really random , indepedent of the conditions being fullfiled
Different summons have different triggers. Titan probability raises when teammates are down.
All summons do massive light damage. It nukes most enemies and even bosses but some have super hight resistance to light (for example purpose built anti-astrals mech like Omega and MAX Angelus) and will be barely scratched.
Some fights have scripted summons. While some areas (like menace dungeons) dont allow summons at all.
And finally only Noctis can summon, that should be obvious.
I was searching about it more and i found some conflicted info aound.
Some people saying there's no cooldown cause they managed to get summons in consecutive fights , back to back.I dont know if that was the case before some patch or something.
Do you have a source about those hidden summon mechanics ? I really wanna know exatcly how that works cause i just play FF games for the summons , so i'm planing to go for them as much as the system allows.
But ofc, on average, especially in early-mid game, a summon is likely to *end* the fight, and most non-mega boss fights won't last long enough for any summon condition to repeat. It can happen, it just isn't likely happen often.
It should be noted that, outside of resistances, summon damage is mainly based on your character level. I know this because of lvl-1 runs. At lvl 1 once enemies get higher level, a summon will be doing 1-5 dmg. or whatever across the board, every enemy from lowly to boss, becoming nigh useless and I stopped pushing the Summon buttons at all. :P btw, this is also how I'm positive summons can be done more than once per fight or day, since lvl1 chrs. can take forever to finish some high level fights.
Anyway, the "conditions" to trigger summoning, whatever they are, have always been rather debatable in gameplay reality, even if some guide says this or that. Those conditions may seem to be "it' sometimes, but there are probably hidden/unknown conditions that also apply making it too unpredictable to truly force them. Edit: and as I mentioned already in the old post, Garuda pretty much takes over (without using a mod) if you do that one sidequest.
I was also pretty convinced that there were certain hot-spots or specific fights (not main story ones I mean) where only a certain summon would show up (example, water dragon thing in a certain map location) but could not say/prove for sure. Repeated coincidence could still just be ... coincidence.
There's also the potential that if you're still within the same fight, that the threat meter (maybe?) doesn't reset all the way back to it's starting point, but only a little below the trigger point, allowing the summon prompt to occur again faster - if the fight didn't end with the first summon.
Then you add on top any "condition" like near-water, Noctis down, 50% of the party down, or whatever else I've seen bandied about the 'net - the point that it is not predictable/controllable in any fashion, remains.
If one wants to play "for the summons" - you're probably going to have to look for a mod/trainer that allows for such, if there is one.
1600+ total hours (console+PC) in this game and I think I saw Titan's summon ... twice. G'luck.
I just did that Garuda quest, but i'm playing on Ps4. Does this Garuda taking over thing happens on consoles too or its a PC problem ??? As a big fan of summons i want to unlocks all of them , but i don't want to "glitch" the game making only one summon apppears from now own
And, i saw some people saying they got no summons outside the mandatary ones at all , but i think i'm luck, i did 4 already , 1 Titan , 2 Ramuh and 1 Garuda
As to Ifrit - yeah, he's not one of them in XV-main, but he has a different/story role to play.
The Ardyn DLC, however, has him usable as a sort of summon/party member via a Technique ability. I barely remember how that works, I only went thru that DLC once.
Man, i kinda regret doing that mission. I did it earlier , at level 26 , before even going after Leviathan , i could have waited a little. But now there's no going back as i already saved
Man , Ardyn episode is the only DLC o don't have. Is it worth ?And, are there summons on the other DLC episodes??
Ardyn's the only one with a summon, cause he's special. *wink* It's very story related and is past backstory re: his chr. If you like the story of the game and Ardyn and it's $5, I'd say it's worth it. I think it was initially $10 or so which was less worth it.
None are very long.
I'm under that impression too. Most summons i'm getting now are Garuda but before getting her i would have much less summon opportunities
And about Titan i was thinking, people got to see him so little maybe cause his conditions are just harder to pull of ( i think it was open space and party members down)
So , it esiear to get Gar uda first way before party member are down.
Maybe , if we wait a little longer to summon after the prompt appears , and let the party members to die , Titan will show up
