Final Fantasy Versus XIII?
What is the difference between this game and Final Fantasy Versus XIII? When I first saw the trailer of Versus XIII 10 years ago it was a very dark and gritty FF game. I really wanted to play that game.

Seeing old trailers and gameplay makes me borderline cry. There was so much potential.

Same project, but ultimately completely different games, was a while ago so i might be mistaken, but XV itself didn't actually start development until after the "rename", Versus looked good, but the development was incredibly slow and loads of the "Gameplay" we saw was bullshots (In other words not actually gameplay, it is a common industry practice to do taht stuff though), basically the project was lots of show, little work, at least from a outsiders PoV, where we still got to hear about the Crystal Tools being replaced among other things like getting bumped a console generation, Versus was clearly not having a good development cycle, and the cumination of that was getting a new name and a new director with the plot being changed to stand more alone from the XIII mythos and be more manageble in scale for the development team, as well as splitting up plot aspects over several forms of Media (Brotherhood, Kingsglaive and such).

XV does still have plenty of carryovers from the Versus days and general XIII mythos though, like "Lucii" kinds sounds like "L'Cie" and Noctis lineage basically serving the same role of being servants of the gods, Eos and Shiva both being similar to Etro in various aspects and so on.

But also tons of differences, for example Cor was going to be one of the "Main" permanent party members instead of a Guest, the Stella/Luna differences (Stella was supposed to have a more Romeo and Juliette dynamic and be a enemy IIRC) and much more.

And Royal Edition/Windows Edition does have character switching, though only in battle, which was one of the biggest most glaring thing missing from Versus gameplay promises when the game originally released on console.

Basically Versus XIII was the ideal Nomura wanted to have while XV is the "finished" (More DLC fixes still incoming from what i heard) product when the weight of reality made that ideal impossible for him to reach and someone else had to finish it up.

Literally everything is different, they cut most of stuff except for main characters. Keep in mind this ''dark and gritty'' FF game didn't end with Versus, XV was supposed to be like that as well (XV ''Versus'') which you can clearly see from the first trailer.

However year later director responsible for the game (Nomura) went to another project (KH3) and game was given to Tabata which made a lot of changes and literally killed almost every traces of versus which were left. Nothing from the videos you posted is in the game, same goes for the video I posted.

The game became another tech medieval FF.

Nomura had finished 90% of the Versus XIII story but the Squareenix higherups thought that the story was too dark so they removed him from the project and brought in Tabata. Removing Nomura from the game director's position was the worst mistake by Square. He was involved with the company since 1987 when the first FF was made. All the best FF like 6 and 7 were all directed by Nomura.

Finished 90% this sounds like a lie to me final fantasy 15 is pretty dark especially the ending
