It's been in production since 2006 and probably had more storyline versions than we'll ever know.
You're kind of comparing the wrong video with the right data.
The original version of the game was FF13: Versus, meant to be an action RPG companion to the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. This was started by Nomura, but after it's announcement in 2006, it was basically shelved for later as he was making several games at once and poorly managed.
When the former CEO of the company resigned (read: was fired in Japanese business talk), the new CEO decided to unearth the project, taking the basics of it they renamed it Final Fantasy 15 and brought Nomura in to finish the creative process (writing the basic story, designined the characters, etc.) and when he was done he was booted off to work on KH3 and FF7 REMAKE whle Mr. Tabata took over.
Mr. Tabata saw intrinsic problems with getting the game out based on the original trailers and what Nomura made and slashed a lot out of the game to make something that could be released before we all turned old and gray. What we got was the basic of the game that was shown by drastically altered into something that could actually be made.
Nomura is an artist, a creative, but not a programmer. So while he brought about a very interesting and intriguing idea, it's the same kind of idea that gets thrown out of most production companies because it just wasn't sensible.
I will say this, the combat system really hasn't changed much. It's easier to use and less menu intensive than Kingdom Hearts, but it's essentially still the same game in that aspect.
Not only that, since this game's now on PC and the devs have said they are gonna support modding for the game, my hope is that talented modders could potentially bring back some of the cut contents / concepts and / or improve the retail game's experience in a big way.
Sadly I doubt we will ever know what all has been changed or how much of what we have now mirrors older plans for the game. Unfortunately it is pretty rare to see Japanese games get in-depth post mordums like some Western games get. I feel like the development of FFXV would make a great book or documentary.
Most of the cut contents were in Kingsglaive particularly that ball scene, except with Nyx not Noctis.
They fired him so they can make him helm one of the most anticipated title? He's been director of many KH and the upcoming KH3.
Not really, he probably left because he couldn't work out what he wanted it to be or having different direction vs the board. The board probably did not want to risk a main title after FFXIII not being really successful, while Nomura wants an action game.
He did get "fired" from the project. What happened was, as I said before, the former CEO of the company wasn't managing him well and the new one basically has been focusing Nomura. They made him finish his creative work on FF15 before booting him off the project to work on other ones. He didn't leave, or voluntarily go anywhere.
Ahhh think you're referring to this one. Yea I've seen it. Looked freaking amazing.

I mean I guess its understandable cause Final Fantasy is a big household name with no obvious continuation from one to the other (Except for FFX and XIII). So coming up with a new direction for a Final Fantasy game that would please long time FF fans and create a new experience can be a daunting task with the added pressure after what happened with FFXIII (I don't know about others but I personally liked FFXIII series)
But from what I've gathered...the original director of this game, Tetsuya Nomura had a more darker more mature plotline planned for FFXV but were maybe facing technical / creative limitations (At one point, he had the idea of making a FFXV musical)...which I guess was the turning point for SE boards and they replaced him with Hajime Tabata who made the game more...lighthearted and happy-go-lucky. And I heard the story kinda suffered for it. Who knows...maybe if Tetsuya Nomura kept doing what he was doing and finished what he had started, we would've gotten a more gritty mature version of FF15 but now....we'll never know.
For point of reference, I went back and watched all the FF Verses 13 trailers (Which was the original name of FF15) and I gotta say, it really created a fantastic, grim and darker mood for the game....

There was never a point where they said Agni's Philosphy was anything but a tech demo. Same with the second tech demo showcasing Agni, WITCH - Chapter 0 (cry). The tech demos were made to show off the Lumnious Engine. The only thing Agni's has to with FFXV is that they're both Luminous.
THAT'S IT! still wish they'd make that, just the way they showed the potions working was good enough to hook me on a more realistic Final Fantasy world.
yea, I know that now lol. at the time though when it first popped up and everyone was waiting for the next FF to hit and they launch it showing not only a crystal but a summon, a monster, and a super realistic working potion I know I wasn't the only one expected that one to take shape past the tech demo. Honestly still think they should make it, it was super realistic in a good way.
