Character swap was added not too long ago. And yes it is OP'd vs. early Noct. More balanced later perhaps.

Edit: one problem is when you unlock swap the bros have all their abilities. They should've given them separate node trees for unlocking things more gradually.

At end game, Prompto becomes almost completely useless if that makes you feel better. Ignis becomes crucial due to his healing and other abilities that make dealing with the superbosses so much more bearable. And Gladiolus can 1 shot an entire mob of enemies with ease if you let him. The game obviously has balancing issues, but luckily you can choose to make it as easy or hard for yourself as you want.

Prompto in terms of swaping to play as him is not useless in endgame. >.>

The main thing about swapping is the unbalancing factor at the start of a new game, imo. Noct. does balance out more later, especially with the new Royal/Windows edition changes made.

He is completely useless when Noctis can hit for 20k+ with every warp strike. The game isn't difficult to the point of making use of a ranged only character. You're more than welcome to look on Youtube at all the people at post game, you're not going to find many playing as him. But to be extremely obvious about it: You use Ragnarok at end game to hit the damage cap with every warp strike which only Noctis can use, you use the new armiger mode which you receive at the end of the game to literally obliterate bosses within a minute or so which is only useable by Noctis. Calling Prompto useless may be a stretch, but you'd have to be out of your mind to use Prompto instead of Noctis at end game.

^ Hence why I mentioned the new Royal/Windows edition Noct items/changes. They didn't exist for the 4 months of swap's release and before Royal/Windows release after all.

Your actual post made it sound like you were only talking about non-swap skills.

Noctis becomes a power house once you get endgame Armitage Unleashed.

Even prior to the Royal Edition changes, Ragnarok has been there for longer than that. Literally, please find me at least 3 videos of Prompto being used at end game outside of Omega obviously because of the exploit, and I'll take your word for it. Prompto in normal trash fights is great for his crowd control, but every single superboss you fight on its own, making him the least useful of the entire party.

Sigh. I've gone thru this argument with others before, don't feel like doing it again. He is no longer OP'd in endgame, but you said "useless" hence I said he was not useless.

And if Noct. can kill everything in 1 minute or less then ALL the other bro's are nigh "useless."

Uhhhhh, no? Did you just skim over the bit where I said Ignis' utility makes him extremely useful at end game? Or how I said Gladiolus can kill entire mobs in 1 move? But the fact you've had to have this discussion with multiple people should maybe give you the idea that you're wrong. You can enjoy playing as him all you want, but if he has no use at end game, then that by definition makes him useless.
CatPerson Mar 21, 2018 @ 6:09pm
I don't even use Prompto, I suck at playing him. The discussions I've had re: him were of math calculations and dps pre-Royal changes - which granted math does not always = actual gameplay ability/results.

If you can end a boss fight in under a minute, there is no need for Ignis's healing skills (except maybe Regenerate once) nor Gladio's mob killing ability and that is what I refer to.

At any rate - whatever. I think this started by my misunderstanding of thinking your post meant you didn't realize the TC was referring to swapping vs. regular bro Tech's/abilities. I don't want to get into a pissing contest about right or wrong. :)
