Chapter 13 and its brilliance
Given the dark theme of it I think this was done by the original director, easily best chapter in the game. Probably Last chapter is second best.

Sadly tho it was better on the PS4 version, the death ring is now way too good, so the enemies are now way too easy to kill, and there is also many enemies removed so you dont even need to hide now from them.

Basically if you choose the noctis path in terms of exploration it was almost the same, the new patch actually added a couple of new areas.

The main difference vs the noctis path on the new version, is the original game had much more enemies in the corridor areas, and death took much longer to be used, also the hp reduction during death charging was lower as well. So in the original game you kept running out of MP meaning those areas to hide in had to be used whilst MP was recharging.

This probably added 20-30 mins maximum to the chapter time, unless you are pretty bad at the game.

Some parts of chapter 13 seem just broken now, e.g. you walk into a room and you get told you walked into a trap, but no enemies spawn cause they got removed.

I can understand why it's so split. For me, I really liked it. It was not action focussed in the least compared to the rest of the game and was dependent entirely on atmosphere and building Ardyn as an antagonist as he taunts Noctis throughout the journey. You as a player and Noctis as a character has spent next to NO TIME without at the very least one of his Bro's and has always on top of this had an edge over them even when they are around due to the power of Kings. By the time you get to chapter 13, he is not only completly alone, but also has any advantages that he's had since he was a child stripped away as well.

So, from a narritive standpoint I always kind of liked what they did with it, but in terms of pace, yeah it was a bit long and the Ring was SO BAD in the original version that it was almost pointless to even try and use it. Now a large part of the tension is gone since you can wreck everything almost instantly.

They will probably end up cutting Chapter 13 & making Gralea an explorable hub like Insomnia is now, but only for the Complete Edition in 2020, $$$.

Chapter 13 killed the momentum of the game for me. After that Chapter I just finished the rest of the story missions as quickly as I could and now have no desire to play the dlc or post game.
I'll give it awhile incase I decide to come back to the game but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that was boring.

Also that whole prompto bit was entirely pointless and horribly implemented.

So I heard a lot of bad things about Chapter 13 before but without spoiling myself, I had an open mind about it. Today, I finally reached chapter 13. I'm maybe about halfway through it and let me tell you...even with this redone version...it is a borefest. I don't even know why it exists in the first place. It was rushed, lazily done in a linear claustrophobic level design that has no place in the rest of the game. I had to turn off the game to take a break from this borefest session to actually reflect on what I just went through.

When people said that Chapters 10 to 15 was rushed to completion...they weren't joking. Like they could've condensed Chapter 10 to 13 alone and called it the new Chapter 10 but nooo....they had to make these short filler levels just so they can say "We have 15 chapters in the game" matching the title number or something. You can also see when you enter the second map area that the entire second map (Niflheim) was cut from the game and only that train section remains. Now I finally understand those out of bound places people managed to go to.

Like seriously, they should've just delayed this game for however long more to make the full game and then release it. But its too late now. What's done is done. Final Fantasy XV will be etched in gaming history as one of the most mundane and bland game in terms of story out of all the Final Fantasy games.

Yeah I was really disappointed by chapters 10-13 as well. I'd recommend you keep playing up until Chapter 14, when you reach Insomnia. The new explorable map and the epic battles in this chapter are truely memoriable; and the ending is actually really good despite the terrible character dialog (Prompto still acts like he did 10 years ago, doesn't fit in at all imo) that leads up to it. Not to mention you get to unlock the Regalia Type F airplane mod as soon as you beat the game, which is a blast to fly. It's a shame that the whole Nilfgard continent had to be condensed to a short filler train ride segment, with no exploration and cringeworthy dialog between Ardyn and Noctis.

I'm fine with linear stuff, it's just Chapter 13's enemy is too monotonous, snagas everywhere...... I'm also not a fan of the "stealth labyrinth" section with the Axemans
tanman500 Mar 24, 2018 @ 1:50am
Now to think about it, Chapter 15 isn't even part of the main campaign. This chapter only really signifies that you completed the game. It's funny how they added that chapter for literally no reason at all, just to say "hey guys, we have 15 chapters".

FF13 best modern FF game, sounds like you dont like what FF traditionally is, which is linear and story focused.
That is false, traditionally FF has been open world map and go where you want, that all changed starting with FFX, X is good but it started the linear craze, though xii is better at being open, then all Xiii games were pretty linear but traditionally starting back at FF1 the games have been open world exploration no hand holding.

Chapter 13 for me was like Resident evil 4 or 5, but not FF and Ardyn = Wesker. :)
Vilhjálmr Mar 24, 2018 @ 3:01am
Yeah I remember playing this chapter at release and I'm glad it got changed. The cat and mouse game with the enemies while having only the ring to rely on as a weapon and to restore your health made it such a chore, especially when you came up to a group of guys. With its extremely long cast time you were lucky to kill one enemy, then run away and hide, kill another guy and run away again... rinse and repeat. Made the arduous task of moving down small sections of hallways even more of a slog.
