Major FPS drops during combat
Hey guys, like the title says I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting major fps drops during combat, usually right down to 1fps for about 5 seconds. They only happen when Noctis either hits something or is hit by something. I can effectively kite the mobs while letting the other 3 guys mop up without even a single dropped frame..

Graphics settings don't seem to affect whether or not the fps drops happen and I've tried everything from maxed out to all settings on low including 75% render scale, the drops to 1fps still occur regardless.

Anyone else running into this?

My specs are:
- i7 4790k
- 6gb 1060
- 24gb ram @ 2133mhz
- ffxv installed on samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd

na it's not hard drive, i have FFXV installed on 2 computers, one of them has the same GPU as you. I don't have that problem. You could try defragging, make sure your TRAM setting is not too high. Can't think of anything else sorry.

You can try turning off geomapping, someone said that is tied to particle effects for some reason. But you said you already tried with low settings so if it's still happening, not really sure. Check your cpu temps and see if it's getting too high and throttling itself. I don't think that's it though honestly, I don't know why it would only happen when you do stuff with noctis

Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately, I've tried with geomapping off and with TRAM set to "low", the drops still happen. CPU is staying between 30-40c and GPU hasn't spiked higher than 65c. I've even tried installing the "Special K" mod to see if disabling the unused inputs would help, no luck there either.

I imagine I'm just going to have to wait for a patch and hope it works after that.

I had this issue and found that it was from geomapping but it sounds like you're still having issues after turning it off. Have you tried restarting the game after turning the settings to low? Apparently not all settings take effect until after restarting the game.

I actually didn't try restarting after changing the settings around. I'm going to try that once I get some free time, thanks for the suggestion!

If that doesn't work I'm going to buy another SSD, move FFXV to it, and then see if that does anything.

I'm not even that far in yet, unfortunately. The "106 minutes" I've "played" have so far been spent around Hammerhead trying to fix this bug, or whatever it is. But, I just went and bought another SSD and I'm installing FFXV on it now, so we'll see if that does anything.

I've got same problem with ramuh, having a stable 60fps framerate, but after summon (after, not in the process of it, just the moment ramuh disappears from game location) it drops significantly... only restart helps.
So far so good from all other things.

Well, installing it on an SSD did nothing to help. Still getting FPS drops whenever Noctis is hit or hits something. Otherwise, getting a solid 60fps without an issue.

Regarding the FPS drops when summoning, it sounds like a pretty widespread issue. There are a ton of threads about it.

ur GPU is low mid end, so no wonders

haha, good one! If it were a GPU issue then everyone with a 6GB GTX 1060 or lower would be having dips to 1fps whenever Noctis is hit or hits something. Clearly they are not, so it's not a GPU issue.

it's an optimization problem... this is a bad version. FPS drop et blurry render. The game is not "the best pc game against console version" that the websites says... it's a horrible version like a simple port. I have the same drops in 4k as 1080p as 720p ... it's a memory leak and bad optimization. Need patch..

Yeah, I agree. I've tried on 2 different systems with a variety of settings one meets minimum spec, the other meets recommended specs, and still having issues. Its either issues with memory allocation, or its Denuvo eating up performance either way the port job isn't the best. I've seen worse, but this could easily be fixed in a patch soon. If its not I might not buy another square enix game on PC again. This isn't the first time they release a horrible port job onto PC and never fixed the issues.

Yes but Square Enix has destroy the port of Chrono Trigger ( a NES game)... yes it's possible...i'm afraid for the patch of FF XV now. Just the website says that the game is "awesome" for its optimization... No. The Witcher 3, yes. Denuvo need to be delete. For the PC user, I can compare with PS4 Pro version.. PS4 Pro Version > PC because stable & finished version..

Did you monitor your cache performace from RAM, VRAM, Pagefile? My friend also had similar situation and it turned out he had wonky executable from unkown modder changing his pagefile setting to "fix" unrelated games he had problems with. It basically rendered the game he was interested in playing to act up.
