How to run FFXV on a CPU without SSE4.1 (Phenom/Core 2 Duo)
It's really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy. The only prerequisite is basic knowledge of command prompt.
Just google "Intel SDE" and go to installation instructions. Follow the download link and download the Windows version (obviously). BTW the links after the first one you need to follow should be completely self explanatory. After you do that, extract the archive with something like 7-Zip or WinRAR. Open the folder that you just extracted and run the sde-win.bat file. At that point, a command prompt should open up. Do not close it. Once the window is open, cd to your FFXV's installation directory. It'll probably be in your steamapps folder. Once you're there, type "ffxv_s.exe" without the quotes and just wait patiently. it will take a few minutes or more to start up, but once it's running, you should be good for playing. I dunno how stable it is, but it ran for me when i started it up so I'm hoping this will help others out there.

Hey there! I've personally been looking for a AMD Phenom II fix for ages. I can play the demo just fine using the Intel SDE as you mentioned above (a solid 28-30 FPS at Medium settings and stable), however I think Denuvo stops the use of the SDE on the full steam-purchased game, because it thinks its being tampered with :(

Anyone know a fix for this using the offical Intel SDE, I've tried the method above, I've tried doing "tasklist" and "-attach-pid" in command prompt, the best I can do is get to the Menu occasionally in the full game, where as the demo runs A-ok with the method (5 hours and loving the demo! No issues apart from the initial 2 min launch time. Its so pretty <3) just no luck with the full game. I'd rather get the SDE working to get the nice demo-like performance, than find 600-700 Euros suddenly for a new PC :(

Maybe I've done something wrong for the full version as mine starts up in task manager then closes down again when it sees SDE.

any luck?

Well the OP isnt using Denuvo as he doesnt own it on Steam, So your only option is to use modified version. Get a refund. Denuvo costs around 2 FPS at high framerate on the high end 6 core I7 benchmark that keeps going around but it'm sure it will be more costly on low end CPU's to further that advice.

It's against the license agreement, but what can you do when poor choices have been made by the development team, from the ♥♥♥♥ up with the demo exe, to adding denovo, and not allowing this support to happen when infact a phenom II 6 core should run this game on low to medium settings ok. my i5 and quad core xeon are around 50-60% useage on all cores so yeah those old 6 cores should finally get some use as back then there wasnt much multi threading support.

@Kyriya: Are you playing the FFXV?! (4.5h on record)? How did you manage?
Kyriya Mar 10, 2018 @ 8:30pm
@SirEriond I've played a bit of the game on my very underspec laptop (2.4Ghz Dual Core, 1GB AMD Mobility Radeon, 6GB RAM) for a little bit, but honestly 4 FPS isn't playable, I just wanted to check the files worked and if loading from a save (by making a save from my laptop version).
I think its also counted the time I've tried to get it to work by loading it and being in the demo. If you launch the demo via windows and you have the full FFXV on your account I think it racks up hours on it, I wanted to show my friend that a Phenom II can run Final Fantasy XV just fine, so i streamed it to him while playing as proof (dropped 4 FPS while doing it and went to 24-26 FPS @ Medium settings while streaming FFXV-Demo on a Phenom CPU.) Hence where some of the time has come from.

I've had some minor success by launching the full game from steam, using the SDE method but quickly intercepting it in command prompt with the "C:FFGameDirectory\tasklist" then "...sde -attach-pid #ApplicationNumber#". I can get my game to load to the main menu, see all the DLC listed but the loading screen of New Game or Load Game causes the game to no longer respond. I strongly suspect Denuvo is detecting the SDE on loading screens and seeing it as tampering, thus crashing it.

Sorry for the long messages, I try to be thorough! :blissful_creep:

As mentioned by some people there IS a version out there that would work fine with the SDE method on a Phenom CPU, but I'm not sure I want to go that route and would rather play my full steam game version, if its ever officially fixed... :sad_creep:

Thank you for your answer, and yeah, i know the "alternative" and indeed share your point of you on this... /me goes back to his FF shrine to prey to SE gods to fix the game...

Works like a charm.and now FFXV runs on my Amd Phenom as well. Its so stupid the game doesnt work on phenom cpus. If u can do it through this emulator which eats up so much resources.

Also I hope Dr Dro reads this

Dr Dro its hilarious to still see you going into amd phenom threads to ♥♥♥♥ on its users. It plays almost all games at 1080p/60fps, even new games like Kingdom Come Deliverance or PUBG. I was just looking at the Mafia 3 thread when it wasnt yet fixed to work on cpu's that dont support SSE 4.1 and then later it got fixed so everyone on a Phenom cpu was able to play anyway ( after a small bit of work from the developers, the customers were able to play the game they bought. ). You're in there telling ppl tp upgrade as well lol. But then after it got patched you conceded and said this:

As long as you're happy with it, who am I to stop you? Can't deny they're old, though.

They are old. At least 7 years old. But with a good amount of ram and a 1060gtx you can run so many games at 1080p/60fps. Only a bare handful of games simply do not work ( AC Origins, FFXV ).

Hi Kyryia, would you accept my Friend request (even temporary)? I have some questions about how you got Final Fantasy to work and i could see that you are successfully playing it :)

Thank you!
