[MOD/TWEAK] More responsive turfeffects grass + longer lasting trails UPDATE Taller Grass/Forever Trails
Hey guys, here's a quick edit of the turfeffects grass. With this, the grass will flatten quicker, and it will stay flattened longer. This isn't an exaggerated edit, nor does this make all types of grass behave the same. For now this is all this does [this is no longer correct].

I intend to edit things further if I deem it necessary (the width of the deformation may need tweaking for example).

I also may want to make a visual pass, editing the grass height, and variation. So far this seems possible.

Download the files, and replace the ones in your game's TurfEffects folder.

[UPDATE 1] First variant added, which makes the grass taller.
[UPDATE 2] Second variant added, which makes the grass stays flattened forever, and
third variant added, which is a mix of the previous two.
[mini update 1] Added backup files in case someone screws up.
[mini update 2] Added screenshots.
[UPDATE 3] Old standard version has been renamed to vanilla, new standard version added. This one tweaks a couple of more things like average grass height (to a much lesser extent than the taller variant, and on a grass type by grass type basis), and it further improves grass collision, and trails.
[mini update 3] Added high quality screenshots to the archive. The blades of grass are very blurry in the jpegs below.
[mini update 4] Changed screenshots host. imgur has the worst quality I've ever seen, and it resizes for no reason.
[UPDATE 4] Updated standard version to be more responsive. After testing, this seems to be the sweet spot.

*after is using the taller_forever variant, also I specifically ran in circles right behind noctis to flatten as much grass as possible in both shots.

null_Reshade:
I've also started working on a small reshade preset. I have to say I'm not sure I'll ever release it, because reshade presets are usually complete trash (e.g. all three FFXV presets on thelazy are over-exaggerated, and disgusting through and through), and it's plain to see that the majority of people who love them are blind and/or mentally unsound. This will not make your colors explode into a spectrum of vomit, and this won't crush the blacks so hard that MLK turns over in his grave. I will NOT be taking ANY suggestions for this, unless you are a qualified visual artist with a decent understanding of color grading. I will probably release it when I'm done testing the preset through multiple weather types, and time of day.

Hey guys, I've just updated the op again, this time with 2 new variants.

It does indeed work! though one pity with the gameworks turf is, it looks kinda poorly shaded. Especially at night. Vxao and the ingame ao (which is rendered at a low resolution) aren't properly applied to grass when turf is enabled. Atleast it does look like that to me.

I'm not really getting any of your problems, though I'm running in UHD, perhaps you are not? Also, the standard grass does not draw any shadows whatsoever, including from your flashlight at night, whereas the turfeffects grass does.

I don't know how to help you, though, which saddens me. Hopefully you'll find a fix.

I may get around to capturing some footage at some point. The performance impact for the normal mod, and the taller version is non existent on my end, though I'm open to hearing reports from others. I can't say if the forever versions require more performance, as I don't really play with them. In theory, it should not make any difference.

Screenshots would be useless, except for the taller version. I have not yet captured any videos.

I was assuming people could imagine taller grass, and trails that hold their shape longer.

I hope there`ll be tweak for character hair, it looks god awful in 1080p, when on console it looked great

What do you think is the difference? Hair looks great at 2160p, and it's the same assets as on console—with the same post pipeline—it should look the same.

[EDIT] Oh and by the way, in case you were actually wondering: the game doesn't use hairworks, so I can't do anything about it yet. Nor would I want to at the moment.

That is a much more involved issue. This is just tweaking the Turfworks configurations that the game ships with. Hairworks is a whole another beast and will require redoing portions of the character models. Until the official Mod Tools are available, that will be outside the scope of most mods. Even then it might not be possible as the Hairworks stuff is all proprietary to Nvidia and probably require NDAs, so wouldn't be included in the Mod Tools. We won't know till we have them though.
I've added screenshots for my small reshade. I don't yet know if I'll release it as a bonus to this, separately, or not at all.
