The only thing that came close to explain anything in the 10 year hiatus is the comrades dlc, but even so , it does not add much to it , they tried tho

There is something special about Angelgard, the six are guardians after all, angel guard? Perhaps it's where the crystal landed on EOS?
Ardyn didn't look surprised to see Noctis so he must have known what was going on.
Everything gone according to Ardyn plan. He planned for Noctis to kill him and purge the starscourge.
Lol at least they should show that mild gust of magic instead of just having him start chapter 14 at that Angelgard.
A spoiler free version is basically that Bahamut moved him there, which is obvious enough from his meeting with Bahamut.
There is a lot of symbolism with the island as it used to be the meeting place of the gods, but then was used as a prison. People would have to go and reflect on their sins and judgement would be passed. You might notice Noctis arises a much more capable person.
Spoilers for comrades: Apparently the events in COMRADES takes 10 years from lestallum to reach Angelgard Isle where Bahamut releases Noctis after the kingsglaive prove their power to him.
